Republican candidate for Congress, Richard Piatkowski, today attacked his opponent for failing to act on Homeland Security.
Piatkowski comments on this statement at Bob Menendezs web site:
Everyone needs a champion. We've got one in Congressman Bob Menendez
.
The tragic events of September 11th changed the world in which we live. After the attacks, Bob was named Chairman of the Democratic Caucus Homeland Security Task Force.
Richard Piatkowski said, I wish that Bob Menendez used as much effort in protecting our shores as he does in working at impressing everyone!
The 13th Congressional District is just across the river from Ground Zero. Here are the ports of Elizabeth and Newark, Newark Liberty Airport and New York Harbor -- all prime targets for potential terrorist attacks. The areas security should be the Representatives top concern. Menendezs priorities in this regard are all out of whack. Defending our region must be more important than party politics.
For example, what did this self-professed champion do, when Democrat NJ Governor McGreevey fancied hiring someone with whom he was personally involved as New Jerseys director of Homeland Security? Menendez sat on his partisanship and did NOTHING.
Without sorting through all the grimy details, the Republican challenger points out that Jim McGreevey presented questionable credentials for an unqualified foreign national -- Golan Cipel -- to the hazard of every citizen in NJ. Bob Menendez knew that Cipel was totally unqualified and unfit for this all-important post. Rather than doing what was right; rather than speaking out against this travesty, our congressman allowed McGreevey to put us all in harms way.
I know of more than one State Legislator that has put a wife or girlfriend on his payroll as part of his staff, said Piatkowski.
I know of a Councilman or two that makes sure that members of his immediate and extended families obtain municipal and/or board of education jobs.
I even know of a Congressman who helped his girlfriend get not one, but two jobs at taxpayer expense.
Though of course still very wrong, at least none of these offending officials put citizens lives in dire peril. Thats exactly what the disgraced McGreevey did by appointing the poet and tour guide Golan Cipel to the most security sensitive position imaginable.
There is no way that this could have been carried out by the Governor without the partisan silence of Congressman Menendez. He obviously preferred to have this ill-suited person get paid over $100,000/year to direct the security of New Jersey rather than a previous director of the FBI who had offered to do the job for no salary.
If truth in advertising laws applied to politicians, Menendez would have to put this on his web site:
For Robert Menendez, party politics are more important than the Nations safety.
Which proves, concluded Piatkowski, that Bob Menendez manages to sit in committees, but doesnt get the real job done, the job he was elected to do. When a truly important decision must be made Bobs priority is politics above people. What good is it to be the third ranking Democrat in Congress when Menendez allows our families, our State and even our Country to be put at risk?
