There WERE a number of official Pentagon docs released that were acquired by the AP after they threatened to sue under the Freedom of Information Act.

But these 'Killian' memos were provided by some as yet unnamed source.

All the AP data request did was provide cover for the Kerry campaign to "insert" the Killian docs in to the mix, with the intention no one would question them (and assume they were in the Pentagon docs received from AP).

Grab my tinfoil hat, but I think there was some collusion in all of this.
