McAuliffe Statement on Breaking News About Bush's Military Record

Washington, D.C. - Responding to breaking news regarding George W. Bush's military record, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued this statement:

"George W. Bush's cover story on his National Guard service is rapidly unraveling.

"Tonight's CBS New report made clear that President Bush has misrepresented the nature of his National Guard service for decades to the American people. And now that questions are being raised, only Bush can settle this once and for all by answering the unanswered questions about his Guard service.

"CBS News exclusively obtained documents that flatly contradict two of Bush's often repeated claims about his time in the National Guard - that he received no special treatment and that he fulfilled his duty.

"According to these new military documents, political pressure was applied and strings were pulled for President Bush at every step of the process: to get in the Guard, to stay in the Guard, and to exit the Guard.

"These are serious charges. They have not been leveled by his opponent. Or by a political party. Or by an outside group. They are based on documents from the personal files of Col. Jerry Killian, Bush's squadron commander.

"George W. Bush needs to answer why he regularly misled the American people about his time in the Guard and who applied political pressure on his behalf to have his performance reviews 'sugarcoated'?"

Bobby Fischer said something like the object of winning in chess is to see your opponents ego crumble.

I think we're gonna see some of this from Kerry and the DemoRats soon.

If CBS admits these documents are forgeries and were delivered by the DNC, doesn't this appear to be the end of the Kerry campaign? It just sort of ties up their corruption, Kerry's Vietnam record, and their lies all in one neat little package.

Glad you found this and posted it.

I'm wondering who knew and who didn't. It's a safe bet Dan Rather was duped, as well as the 60 Minutes editors. They'd believe anything anyone told them as long as it was Bush-bashing.

McAuliff . . . hmmmm . . . Is he bloviating to cover his tracks? If he was duped, did bill'n'hill set him up?

Such fun. It's a DNC whodunit!

This slimebag will be so history after Nov.2 . Too bad. He's good for the Republican Party.

Thought we'd better save this.

McAuliffe's statement that CBS exclusively obtained these documents is dishonest and very interesting in light of statements posted nearby (American Spectator article) that these documents were given to CBS by a DNC staffer.

The 'toons wouldn't have set him up - he's their handpicked boy to run the show. That's even better - discredit them all.

Assuming this conspiracy brings down the Kerry campaign - wouldn't it be *possible* that it was done on purpose so that the dems have a credible reason for replacing Kerry as their candidate?

You've got to respect a guy who takes his political talking points from Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf.

"I have detailed information about the forged document situation...which completely proves that what they allege are illusions."

"I triple guarantee you, Kerry is ahead in the polls."

"We are not afraid of the Republicans. Allah has condemned them. They are stupid. They are stupid" (dramatic pause) "and they are condemned."

"This criminal in the White House is a stupid criminal."

"Our initial assessment is that on November 2nd, we will slaughter them all."

"The Republicans are now in disarray."

"We have them sourrounded in their tanks."

Someone should put up a website called "WeLovetheDemocraticInformationMinister.com".

This is great! Let these two dishonest organizations duke it out in public about how dishonest the OTHER organization is.

I don't believe so. It can make the Kerry campaign look bad, and consequently make Kerry something of a laughing stock, but he didn't forge the documents himself or present them to the DNC or CBS. The Dems can't just up and replace Kerry because his polls are bad. He'd have to get ill, or be physically unable to continue and step aside for some reason purported to be his own. I don't believe he'd ever do that voluntarily--his ego is too big.

It's too late to put in a new candidate....a-hem... legally.

But we are dealing with rats, however, anything goes, protected by the Old Media.

The Dems can't just up and replace Kerry because his polls are bad.

That's what the citizens of New Jersey thought 2 years ago. The criminal Torch was reeling in the polls, and Frank Lautenberg was resurrected to "give the good citizens of New Jersey a choice". The Dems can do any damn thing they please.
