Wasen't it 60 minutes who, not being able to get a pickup truck to explode, strapped rocket engines to the underside of the truck? They couldn't make the pickup explode from a side impact or something so they stuck the engines on the tank to make the tank explode? I think it was somewhere around 1992 or 93. Then they led the viewers to believe the impact caused it... until they were caught of course.

It was NBC i.e. General Electric, who ended up paying an undisclosed sum to GM as well as having the President of NBC news apologize on the air.

Actually, that was NBC's Dateline, in 1993. But it's all part of the same phenomenon.

It was NBC Dateline.

FWIW, ABC faked the Food Lion meat scandel, though they were set up by the union. (they paid too as I recall)
