O.K. Fill ME IN. JUST HOW WAS DAN RATHER CAUGHT WITH PANTS DOWN?

Posted on 09/09/2004 8:54:29 PM PDT by MrChips

I am just loggining in. I understand that Rather used the documents as part of his Guard story. But why are he and CBS the culprit? Didn't the AP get the released documents originally? Where do they come in? I am confused. Please explain.

Signed,

Tired Schoolteacher

I believe the "memos" were provided by Paul Begala and James Carville

Yep, Hillary pulled down that man's pants. Bet that felt strange to her.

Well, I don't know a darn thing about it. But from watching Dan Rather (not much lately)....I think it all goes back to his embarrassment over the last election results. The announcing too early, etc. So, he is determined that President Bush should be defeated this time. That is his agenda. It's not much different than the entire Dim wailing. They still stay Bush didn't really win. So Rather is determined to do his best that Bush doesn't win this time, in a landslide. It's all about his ego, imho. He somehow thinks he is still a respected news journalist. Desperate? Weak? Koolaid?

Ya get Doom 3 yet?

I'm still counting pennies until I can build a system that'll play it in full detail mode.

(BTW, that's the "All Weapons" code for Blood 2 as well -idkfa)

They came out almost instantly and said they "stand by" their reporting. They are now saying they are going to have an internal investigation. And.... they've PROMISED Dan Rather would issue an on -air retraction. Can't wait for 6:30 tomorrow!

the CBS "experts" should have seen the inconsistencies well before the end of the "six weeks" they had to study the originals.

It was DNC (which is, I think, distinctly different from Kerry campaign) that claims to have had the docs for 6 weeks.

Looks like hurricane reporting duty for Dan once again. He can go eye to eye with Ivan. I always liked seeing Dan standing in the wind & rain and not hearing a thing he said. Jamaica is nice this time of year.

Thank you, idkfa!

You teckie's surpass me sometimes! Now I understand what the discussion has been all about! I am a 3-D learner. Sometimes I have to see it, and touch it, rather than just read it, before I can understand the controversy!

I wondered about that, too. Rove could have planted this as a way to both help Bush and destroy CBS. Looks like the plan might very well work.

Ain't broadband great?

I remember reading that a big part of the fall of the Soviet Union was the dissidents' ability to exchange stuff via email.

This is the next step.

"Documents unearthed by CBS News . . . . " So, where does the AP come in? I had heard that the AP sued for release of the documents.

Different documents. The flight records were legit documents and showed nothing more than how many hours and in what type aircraft (probably the actual by serial number aircraft) Bush flew. He had over 300 hours in F-102A and about 70 in the two seat conversion trainer version. That was in addition to his hours in the trainers he flew in pilot training. Probably T-37 and T-38, although the T-33 is a possibilty. Pilots are still being trained today in the T-37 and T-38. Although T-37 is being phased out in favor of the turbo-prop T-6 Texan II. I see all three types several times a week since my office is under the approach to Kelly Field at Lackland AFB.

"If two amateur Freepers can poke 20 holes in these documents in a few hours, working only from crappy .pdf files..."

What you say is true. But caution--some of the best minds post at Free Republic.

I just have a question about the Washington Post story. The Post claims that someone at CBS told them that a CBS reporter called Col. Killian's commanding officer, Gen. Hodges, and read the memos to him. The Post claims that CBS told them that Gen. Hodges said that the memos reflected what Col. Killian was saying about then-Lt. Bush and his service back in '72-'73. CBS is saying that they contacted associates of Col. Killian, but did not name names. Gen. Hodges has refused to return phone calls about the Washington Post story, and, thus, has neither confirmed nor denied.

Am I reading the Post story correctly? Any comments? I'd hate to think that Gen. Hodges and others have confirmed that Col. Killian said similar things about Lt. Bush. I wish that Hodges would just come out an deny the Post story.

Good summary - except per WorldNetDaily, CBS has backed off from its prior claim that they used outside experts.
