Signature on CBS documents don't match original
Powerline ^ | 9/9/04

Posted on 09/09/2004 8:01:36 PM PDT by Cableguy

The signatures on the CBS documents do not appear to be authentic. Check out the two signatures below, courtesy of Michele Catalano of The Command Post. The one on the left is an actual signature of Lt. Col. Jerry Killian. The one on the right is from one of the CBS documents. It's not even close; in fact, it doesn't even look like the person who signed it made any attempt to copy Killian's signature:

Since I posted this, a number of readers have written to disagree with me--they think the signature on the right is a crude effort at forgery. Dafydd ab Hugh's characteristically thorough and brilliant analysis is too long to include here, and Diana Magrann also argues persuasively that the signature is an attempt at a forgery.

the "J" on the memo is too vertical when compared w/the other signatures.

If you're going to forge something, take a little pride in your work, you know what I mean?

LOL

--- In my entire Navy career, I cannot recall ever writing my rank without adding "USNR".---

you're right, and there's a good reason for that; ranks in the armed forces may have the same name, but very different levels of seniority. a captain in the navy is a senior officer, but a captain in the army or air force isn't.

I know what you mean about signature changing with mood. My signature on a contract looks nothing like my signature when I charge my lunch.
However, my first name is William. When I sign my name my dots are always to the right of the letter "i".
Killian is the same. The alleged forgery has the dots over the "i"s.

No kidding. I used to sit in my high school lunchroom before class and sign absence slips for other students. They'd bring in a copy of mom or dad's signature, I'd practice it 5 or 6 times 'til I got it right and then did the doo. These people are comparative amateurs.....;^)

I'm guessing you are a girl because MEN'S signatures do NOT vary by mood! Real men that is.

Agreed. However, see post 2. My signature varies almost every time I do it....it is like an elementary kid's sig...not very good.

However, I do not sometimes sign my name, sometimes initial it, and totally vary my form of wording. There are at least some common elements.

I would not call post 1 a smoking gun, but would call post 2 such. The first two sigs are from legit docs he signed. The last is from CBS. It doesn't even look like he signed his full name in the last one, but initialed it. Also, the way he signed it was consistent in the first two legit docs; it appears that Killian does not vary his sig much.

Therefore, the third doc makes no sense. It confirms the forgery.

Well, maybe Killian used different typewriters. But of course, the font thing is where the action is. Was the font and the spacing style on any typewriter then is the the issue. The first letter of the first name is also a good indicator I think. I haven't changed how I do much the first letter of my name in about 15 years. I do a printed style "S" rather than a cursive "S," and it doesn't vary much.

I also know that handwriting experts want really to see original signatures, because where the rubber meets the road in where the pen is depressed, and where it isn't. Apparently where we press the pen, and where we lighten up, is rather more hard wired in our brain. One can't really tell that very well from a copy.

I sometimes on interoffice stuff do my full signature (that is rare; usually I only do that on important legal briefs, or in an important letter to someone with whom I have not previously corresponded), sometimes a truncated signature, and sometimes initials. However, the "S" looks about the same on all.

LOL. You should check of John F. Kennedy's signature! It was wildly inconstant. That signature really needed originals to parse, or so I'm told.

Hey, how you doing?

There are documents contemporaneous with these with LTC Killians signature on them. Those documents are pretty conclusive proof that this one is a forgery.

I know the Army didn't have top of the line typewriters in 75 and these contemporanoues documents prove that neither did Killian in 1973.

Dan Rather, CBS and some operatives somewhere are in deep doodoo.

PS: Watch Nightline Tonight. LTC Killians widow will have some very interesting comments based on ABC's website. And those comments will lend weight to the theory that this document is the BIG LIE.

So CBS lied about even having the sig verified.
