I'll play the DUer here so we can cover all the bases.. Is it possible Staudt could have influenced Hodges after he retired? Favor for an old pal?

It's possible. I believe that all the evidence of a forgery put forth here does have a possible explination. From a special order typewriter to a special order print ball to a Ltc. forgetting the proper abbreviation for a 1Lt. It's possible that a secretary signed the odd signature, the same Ltc. using several non-military abbreviations and on and on.

At some point you surpass the level of improbability of the theory of evolution.

Another FReeper created his own forgery that looked just as good did it in no time at all.

As for a retired General coming back to his unit a year later to use his influence for a political favor. There would have to be strong ties to the bush family for that to happen. (or pictures)

Fox also reported that the guy (Killian) who supposedly wrote these emails, wrote a glowing commendation for Bush just 2 weeks after these are dated. So that shoots CBS new theory that spoke with others that confirm Killian felt this way at the time. Then again, maybe Killian was being forced to write the glowing commendation by the evil Bush family.

I just cannot believe how poor the forgeries are. My concern is that we will never be able to prove this and CBS will never back down. All these folks who think Dan is going to be fired or quit are just dreaming. The most you will get from CBS is that they can no longer confirm whether these are authenic or not, but stick with their original story.
