Gore: Cheney 'Blackmailing Voters With Fear'

Al Gore on Thursday described Vice President Dick Cheney's remark that ``the wrong choice'' by voters could result in another terrorist attack as ``a sleazy and despicable effort to blackmail voters with fear.''

In remarks prepared for a speech to the United Steelworkers of America, the former vice president accused President Bush and Cheney of using fear to promote their re-election because they have what he called a ``failed record'' on the economy, health care and the war in Iraq. ``The claim by Bush and Cheney that the American people must give them four more years in office or else be 'hit hard' by another terrorist attack is a sleazy and despicable effort to blackmail voters with fear,'' Gore said.

``They are going back to the ugliest page in the Republican playbook: fear,'' he said. ``They're not even trying to convince you to vote for George Bush. Their only hope is to try and make you too afraid to vote for John Kerry. It's the lowest sort of politics imaginable.''

Cheney told supporters in Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday that, if Kerry were elected, the United States risked falling back into a ``pre-9/11 mind-set'' that terrorist attacks are criminal acts that require a reactive approach.

``It's absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on Nov. 2, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again and we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States,'' Cheney said.

Gore joined other Democrats, including Kerry and running mate John Edwards, in condemning Cheney's statement. President Bush declined to discuss the issue with reporters on Wednesday. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Cheney was talking about differences in how Bush and Kerry would approach the war on terror.

"Gore: Cheney 'Blackmailing Voters With Fear'"

Interestingly enough, Cheney is trying to ensure we understand that what we should be afraid of is Kerry. The libs missed that little bit of strategery..

Gore..?? Isn't he the guy that was arrested for speeding in Oregon and endorsed Howard "Yeeeearghhhh" Dean?

I reckon that Gore is the one doing the blackmailing. His line is vote for the Rats, or he will spend another 4 years moaning about loosing Florida.

"Is Algore aware that his subliminals are drawing voters to Bush/Cheney?"

You know, I believe that when Al Gore speaks, he reminds Americans of how blessed they are and were that he was NOT president on 9/11, and they are much more likely to be motivated to vote for Bush this year!

Let him keep on. He is perhaps the Republicans' most effective tool!

They are going back to the ugliest page in the Republican playbook

Would that ugliest page be the one with Al Gore's picture on it?

There go the Democrats again...jumping out of their skin defending their stock-in-trade.
