1. Those were clearly typed in Times New Roman or a similar font. No way that existed in 1972 and 1973. At the very least, Killian went back years later and created these, and at the worst, they are outright forgeries.
2. If these memos were indeed found in Killian's own file - and where else could they have been all these years and never discovered?? - they would not appear to have been repeatedly photocopied, they would be ORIGINALS!!! D'oh!
3. If these were memos Killian wrote to his own file for CYA purposes, why would he bother to put a self-typed letterhead on them? Nobody does this on memos for their own files.
This is an embarrasingle amateurish effort. But don't forget that TIME and Newsweek both ran cover stories on "The Hitler Diaries" before they were exposed as fakes. This would not be the first time a major media outlet desperate for a scoop fell for a hoax!
I'm asking again... Why are these memos damaging. What is the point CBS is trying to make? I havn't been able to pull all of them up, so I'm assuming they are memos asking for a relocation or discharge from the guard. We're talking 1972? 73? There were more pilots than planes. Logical that if he couldn't fly to keep up his proficiency, why fly? Esp a dangerous plane like the T103.
Can someone explain to all of us, why these memos are damaging and what is the point Rather wishes to make?
