God bless you for serving America. I still think the 1960s was a wasted decade because of hippies, drug use, free sex, and the birth of political correctness. I think the Vietnam was winnable. LBJ just screwed it up.

Thanks. it really wasn't a big deal for me...it was an experience I'll never forget or regret.

"Free sex", it was an experience I'll never forget or regret.

Your complaints about how much you've paid ring hollow to boomer conservatives, who've not only funded the boom of the welfare state, but have spent the past 30 or 40 years having leftist pop culture shoved down out throats - by the GG, fellow boomers, and Xers - with very little ability to respond.

Was I complaining? Some old fart was spouting ignorance (which truly rings hollow) and cussing at me, I calmly explained his mistakes. Another poster who expressed the same frustration as you tried to 'educate' me.

Now it is you who are complaining! If you've funded the welfare state, who's fault is that???? Mine?? Your father's generation??

Nope it's yours. Your responsible for your actions not me and not other generations. And sadly it probably will be up to the conservative side of your generation to once again bear the responsibility of the generation as a whole. Passing the buck is one of the ugly traits of baby booomers. Grow up.

But you see in my mind, when those soldiers came back they were no longer 60s CHILDREN, they were MEN, and deserved respect. So the distinction was such that to pour derision upon the 60s is NOT to include the men of Vietnam. In my particular view, it is to stand up for them and return the scorn upon the Leftist Hippies who were so horrible to the vets and did such harm to the rest of us. This is how it works out in my mind.

Well put, agree 100%.

Gross generalities are the sign of a feeble mind - for example I would not assume for a moment that your generation shares in common the stomach turning self-righteousness & hypocricy you've displayed here.

Get back to me in a few years when you've gained some wisdom, manners, or at least a little perspective, sonny.

Yes a gross generality you're correct, I may have crossed the line there, in posting that I was wrong. Self-righteousness yes, hypocricy?...where? Get back to me in a few years when you've gained some wisdom, manners, or at least a little perspective, sonny.

I'll get back to you when I choose to get back to you. First you accuse me of compaining, then you complain, now you accuse me of being rude, and rudely dismiss me, jeeez talk about hypocricy.

My personal hope is that the generation born from roughly 1982 to 2004 will take over, as quickly as age requirements allow. I see some positive signs this may occur.

You have a point. I think of my quiet brother-in-law, who did his tour and came home to a factory job that he is now retiring from.

Perhaps they will. My reason for posting on this thread is not to advocate a generation takeover per se, but to illustrate that the class warfare popularized by the clinton generation, might just come back to bite them.

I'll get back to you when I choose to get back to you.

Lessee, inflated sense of self-importance, insufferable self righteousness, an irrational & sweeping dislike for the previous generation (whom you blame for all your problems).

You make a far better 'boomer' than I ever will.

I agree with Johnson. Having read several of his books, I found his comments accurate and insightful.

"I fault the greatest generation with ceding the entire 60's to their children."

Not quite. More like spoiling them rotten. ROTTEN - that's the key word.

Is it any coincidence this was the 1st generation that was largely raised - by the so-called "greatest" gen - on the stupid, illogical & unnatural theories of Dr Spock who was so popular? Why doesn't any1 study THAT effect?

FROM ABOVE ARTICLE: "Jean-Francois Kerry is doing badly in this campaign because he is displaying all the excesses of his 1960s left-wing contemporaries. He windsurfs, rides motorcycles, tosses footballs, all for the narcissistic photo-ops that he first learned about in his youth, when he filmed his service in Vietnam and heaved medals in street demonstrations. He dramatically comes down on both sides of issues such as the war in Iraq. He plays the role of the 1960s arrested adolescent, fuming at his opponents, proclaiming bathos and bewildering the electorate."

M2C, this description of Kerry by Emmett Tyrrell nails in words exactly what you and I have been demonstrating in photos with the "dork" threads. The contrast between the two halves of the 60's generation is starkly demonstrated in the differences between Kerry and GWB, not just in policy, but simply as men.

That's part of it, perhaps. But a lot of "greatest generation" families didn't buy into Spock. Mine, for example.

Yet, my little sis is a flaming lib and a Spockster, herself. I think she was born that way.

Have we considered that liberalism can be a congenital condition...???

I'm glad we're not the only ones who have noticed the toxic connection between dorkiness and narcissism. Thanks for the ping.
