She said it much more nicely than I, or many others on FR, would have. My statement would have gotten my post removed by the moderator.

Face it, though, in so many ways Terry McA has been a gift for Republicans.

I believe the strategy is to encourage the Dems and their spin machine to take the weak response from the White House as encouragement to become even loonier.

The crazier the Dems talk, the worse they'll look when the White House lays out the facts.

The Dems are falling for it. The facts are on Bush's side, so he isn't worried about doing spin control, so much as he is hoping the Dems will continue to cross the line of decency. If people think that the SBVT were agents of the Bush administration, all of the 527s just now coming out against Bush will only look like Dem agents. By trying to destroy the credibility of the SBVTs, the press inadvertently destroyed any credibility for the Dems 527 attack machines. If a group of 260 Vietnam veterans don't have credibility, none of the other groups can have credibility either. But we all know better... The SBVTs have a more accurate version of truth on their side, and it is much harder to debunk them.. and that fact is going to make all the difference in the Soft Money Wars.

To borrow the line from another freeper "If McAuliffe ran a funeral home, people would stop dying"

I would prefer that the RNC respond with something more subtle like this:

"Terry McAuliffe is a braying jackass. We fervently wish that the Democrats would put an adult in charge at the DNC. We will not respond to any more of his idiotic statements."

I agree, the angrier the loonies are, the better for us. Angry people make stupid moves.

This is just another in a long litany of silly statements."

I agree with your post to a certain degree. My only "beef" with the RNC statement is the use of the word "silly" in reference to the attack dog from the DNC.

The word silly makes it seem almost innocent, like the McAwful is just being goofy as normal.

"misstatements" would have been nice enough to make the point, but drawn the line on calling him a bald faced liar, which would get you nowhere.

I've noticed a trend the last couple of days in the Bush campaign. They're using very marginalizing language- yesterday a headline said that they were "mocking" the Kerry camp, today McAuliffe is "silly." It's almost as if they're treating Kerry as if he's too lightweight to be taken seriously. If they start openly laughing at him, Kerry will go apoplectic.

Who knows, maybe she's setting him up for a Monty Python line.

Now, go 'way or I shall taunt you a second time!
(shift to reporter) Stunned by the ferocity of Bush's taunting, Kerry retreated.....
