I work with this female person. Here is her story:
Father was a Baptist Minister. She abandonded his faith who knows when and married fairly young. She had 2 kids. Cheated on the husband (who likewise cheated) with anyone who crossed her path. Her attire was best described as slutwear. The company man-whore thought she was, well, a slut. After her divorce she went even more wild. Then she met a man from Pakistan. She converted to Islam. She's covered now. Wears long dresses and covers her hair. She still cusses like a sailor occassionally and refrains from the drink. She does cover her diamond stud in her nose. The employer is unnerved by her conversion but can not discriminate.
The kicker is that the Pakistani married her but only in an Islamic ceremony without a civil marriage license.
It is just too weird for words.
Well, Orthodox Judaism requires the same, and I believe there are also some Evangelical Christian sects that require women to dress modestly. Not to forget Roman Catholic nuns.
Speaking of nuns, who else can remember the old days when you saw a woman in the street wearing a black robe and head covering and you knew that she must be a nun?
