The guard unit Bush was in was not that popular with people avoiding the draft. First pilots had to to through over a years active duty. Then there were far more comittments than for an army guard unit.

When Bush joined that unit it had many unfilled opeinngs.

In Regular guard units one could spend 6 months on active duty and then spend 5.5 years of once a month weekend drills.

For Bush's unit one spent nearly as much time on active duty as a draftee and then still had to do the week end drills for years.

If one was avoiding the draft there were far better choices then the one taken by president bush.

I had a similar circumstance in 1964. I left ohio for a short term job in Iowa. Like Bush I did not leave my home state Guard. I was just ordered to train with the Iowa guarnd unit. The problem for me was the Iowa Guard did not want to spend the money to train an OHio guardsman.

I attended NO drills in Iowa.. The Iowa guard did not want to train me for no money.

The media makes me very angry. They promote the spin even when to anyone who knows the facts , the spin is nothing but a bunch of lies.
