That's ok, just wanted to clarify :-) I honestly wouldn't know one way or the other which groups Iran has and hasn't sponsored but I wouldn't ever put it past them to extend one hand for shaking and pass money to "brother Muslim jihadis" with the other.
I think so, especially in Yugoslavia. But I think that Shiite ambitions are more limited than those of Sunni Wahabis and easier to reconcile with Russian flexibility.
It appears to me that Shia can be satisfied with local government, tend to be loyal to the central authorities and are targeting primarily Shia co-believers like those in South Lebanon. Once left alone they get more peaceful.
There are few Shias in Russia and Russians might be willing to look other way if local Shia follow their customs and laws. This approach did not work with Wahabis who got a foothold in Chechnya but it seems to work with Shia in southern Lebanon.
