A number-crunching Iranian sports official claimed Iran did in fact beat its arch-enemy the United States at the Athens Olympics, even if the Americans won 103 medals compared to the Islamic republic's six.

"Iran won one medal for every 6.2 athletes sent to Athens, while the United States won one medal for 13.8 athletes," the head of Iran's Physical Education Organisation Mohsen Mehralizadeh told the Etemad newspaper.
According to his calculations, Turkey won one medal per 12.8 athletes, Britain got a medal for 11.8 athletes and Japan got one for 12.2 athletes.
"Therefore," the official asserted, "of the 202 countries present at Athens, Iran was in fourth position. This is a good result."
His interpretation of scoring, however, differs from the accepted standard medals table -- which puts the United States top with 103 medals, of which 35 were gold.
The medals table puts Iran in 29th position.

Duh!!!!
By that same logic, we'd all be speaking German.
All of our team medals really hurt our per capita count.
Whatever, Iran.
We can beat you where it counts. Got it?
Iran sounds a little obsessed, don't they?
LOL! Thanks for starting my day with a BIG laugh. Even as I read the text, all I could think of was Baghdad Bob.
VERY funny.
In related news, the top three 100 M sprinters claim that they should also be awarded the gold, silver, and bronze in the marathon because, per meter, they were faster than the winners of the marathon.
Sheesh!! Sounds like Daschle explaining polling data!
Hilarious ping
Medal envy?
So by his goofy math, if we only sent 1 athlete and he got a medal we'd be the king daddy of the olympics with a 1:1 ratio?
That's exactly what I was thinking. Kerry should hire these folks.
If they're counting individuals on team events (i.e. basketball & volleyball), then they need to expand the medal count for those events by adding each INDIVIDUAL'S medal to the total medal count.
Or they could just go John F'n Kerry themselves!
And this doesn't even count the probable gold medal that was forfeited because their athlete refused to compete against a Jew.
<sarcasm> Maybe it would just be easier to admit the obvious: Iran is superior to the USA in Olympic performance.</sarcasm>
Hell, let's just send Michael Phelps by himself. The ratio would be really cool then, huh?
Thats right Iran keep lying to yourself, no matter how you shake it, how you bake it, you still suck.
I beleive there were just over 200 medal events at the Olympics. That means the U.S., on average, got better than one medal per 2 events -- an average that improves when it is noted that the US didn't even send a team/competitor in certain events (failed to qualify men's soccer and baseball, at a bare minimum).
Completely ignoring the fact that atheletes have to qualify for the Olympics in pre-Olympic competitions. This just means that the US had more atheletes qualify for the Olympics than Iran.
And Al Gore won the popular vote, what's this guy's point?
It's all Bush's fault!
LOL!
Gotta love their inferiority complex.
