Cuba will take the edge off Ivan the way the Bahamas weakened Frances.

Ivan will brush Florida and then turn out to sea.

If Ivan crosses South Florida and out to sea..the Bahamas might as well give up being a country and N.C. is finished off of Cape Fear.

Interesting.. depends on how much of Cuba the hurricane comes over.. Charley came up under Cuba and become a CAT 4 right before landfall.

I still think it's a miracle that Frances didn't charge up right before sliding into land.

Of course, it was mainly dry air and shear that weakened Frances.

Cuba didn't put a dent in Charley. And it wasn't the Bahamas that weakened Frances - it was the fact that Frances slowed down and some dry air worked into the system.

The area just north of Cuba has spawned some of the most intense Gulf hurricanes, including Camille. If this sucker crosses far western Cuba and enters the Gulf, watch out.
