"Will be lucky to get"?
People are already dissing the dems. The Republican Party most likely peaked to early and I bet this will still be a close election though not quite as close as it looked to be.
I think that this could very well be a close election. Remember, Carville is now on the Kerry campaign and there's no telling what he will do. The last-minute DUI is the reason the election was so close last time. I expect these people to lie and try to steal the election. Their shenanigans could keep this election very close again. We shouldn't take ANYTHING for granted.
The point of Minitar's column is that the reason this election is shaping up to be a Bush blow-out is that Kerry (indeed, the Democrats) really don't stand for anything. If Kerry starts actually standing for something, and his position stays firm for longer than 72 hours straight, perhaps he can get back into this race. But even the domestic issues -- taxes, the economy, and health care -- don't help Kerry. He's in favor of raising taxes; the economy is going in the right direction, and joblessness is better than it was in 1996 when the Dems were hailing Clinton's economy as the "best in a century;" and on health care, what Kerry would propose is pretty much what resulted in a Republican blowout in 1994.
Dear chalkman,
"The Republican Party most likely peaked to early and I bet this will still be a close election though not quite as close as it looked to be."
Maybe, time will tell.
But I think it's possible that W could wind up at 53%. Not exactly a landslide, but a solid win.
