My sense about the Kitty Kelly book is that the lunatic fringe of American society already believe the absolute worst about GW Bush...her book will only preach to the proverbial choir, and will add to their hysteria, which actually frightens away the more rational swing voters. Plus, in order for negative news to have an impact, it has to be rooted in truth. Kelly's sack of fiction won't pass the sniff test.
Just a little cut'n paste in my merry old editing room...
"the election was so close last time."
What about the theory that the smear works only against a relatively unknown -- e.g. 2000; and that the people now know enough about Bush to make their OWN judgement?
IOW, the smears will not work, and make the Dims look desparate (which they are . . . )
Carville needs a good ass whooping.

Wow! Now that is good, but surprising, news.
Yeah, it was reported last week on KGO, the left-leaning ABC Radio affiliate in San Francisco. There was apparently much gnashing of teeth over this, both among Dem partisans over in Oakland, and also among the news readers at KGO.
Carville's problem is that this time, he doesn't have a Schlickmeister like...well, Der Schlickmeister...to work with. He has to make the sow's ear Kerry into a silk purse. Fat chance.
Only if the election is fairly close, there just aren't enough of them. Even during the Vietnam years the military just wasn't all that large. If you are old enough, think of how many of your classmates from high school are Vietnam era vets. Or if you are younger, how many were in the military during Desert Shield/Storm. Not many. Contrast that with how many of your fathers or grandfathers were in the military during WW-II. Virtually all of them that were the appropriate age. In my case my Dad and both of my "by blood" uncles, plus almost all of their friends. Same with my wife's Dad and her uncles.
Dear chalkman,
"The Republican Party most likely peaked to early and I bet this will still be a close election though not quite as close as it looked to be."
Maybe, time will tell.
But I think it's possible that W could wind up at 53%. Not exactly a landslide, but a solid win.
