Of course, the Bible doesn't say anything about people "deserving forgiveness."

I assume that Mr. Borenstein was raised in the Jewish and not the Christian tradition, but the Hebrew Scriptures are even less compromising on this point than Christian ones.

God's forgiveness does not come because we "deserve" it - it comes because God is more good to us than we deserve.
