Doesn't hurt Bush. Kerry says they are war criminals and votes against even giving them funding. How does sympathy for them and a desire to help them, help Kerry? It doesn't. No, the other news that helps the Dems on Iraq is things that make it look like we are high handed imperialists there (like the prison stuff), not mere ongoing fighting. Fighting is a reason to fight back, not a reason to run away. Not to mention the war on the ground has been a cakewalk compared to anything like it in the past, and to the left's gloom and doom predictions. It takes world-historical quantities of leftist hysteria to see Iraq as anything but a huge success.
