Tough break for this guy.
To: Bluntpoint
Because he resigned his captain's commission eight years ago, he will return to active duty at a sergeant's base pay - $2,362 a month. That is a kick in the pants. Wonder why this guy did not just retire once he hit his twenty year mark?

The actual marketing of reserve duty is at great odds to what can really happen to you.
To: Bluntpoint
They can continue to accrue points for full military retirement pay. He said he knew it was coming.

I wonder why he resigned his commission while still in the Ready Reserve.

Things have come to a pretty pass when a person is expected to live up to his commitments.

If he really wanted out, he should have fully resigned instead of staying in the individual ready reserve. He chose to accumulate benefits towards full military retirement - and that includes the option of being called up again.
There is no such thing as a free lunch.

I know the spiel a received when I left the military about reserve duty and the likelihood of being called up later on.
They made it seem like it would need to be almost another world war and the reserve will be called up only after there was no one left in the regular army.

Remember recruiters are salesmen. Salesmen rarely practice full disclosure.

I remember all the young recruits who "promised" a certain rating or MOS, and after boot, surprise...surprise!
To: Mr Ramsbotham
My suggestion...fix the roof and cars before he leaves.
To: Bluntpoint
These are soldiers who have left the military but who have agreed to be on call. They receive no pay but do get credit for full military retirement benefits after 20 years. By taking this status, however, they agree they can be recalled to active duty at any time.
This guy agreed to this...it was his decision, and he admits it freely.
We are at war. Nothing more needs to be said.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.Indeed. This is another attempt to persuade folk that we are doing the wrong thing. WE are separating this man from his loved ones, without thought of the consequences. He is the one that made the decision. His family must bear the results...

I'm sorry, it still seems like a real kick in the ass to me.
I know what they marketed to me at the end of my enlistment.
To: Bluntpoint
After three hostile like posts toward the Reserves it appears that you have issues with the militaryif not the Reserves. So were you in the Reserves?
To: NorthGA; Bluntpoint
Most military recruiters ahve all the needed skills to make a dang good living in preowned vehicles sales.

In the army if the army does not give you the mos and rating you were promised, provided you got that in writing, your enlistment contract is void.
