On Saturday we traveled from our home in Lakewood to Simi Valley to visit friends and accompany them to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. They have struck up a friendship with an extraordinary person who is a docent at the Library and we couldnt resist the promise of a private tour.
The tour was wonderful. The grounds magnificent, the exhibits awe inspiring including the replica of the Oval Office.
Then we got to the Lewis and Clark exhibition. There were canoes and a authentic reproduction of one of their Keel Boats, an Indian village, the supplies and trinkets they carried to trade with the natives, maps and painting detailing their journey.
There were also many statues depicting the members of the Corps of Discovery and those who played major parts in their journey. There was Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, Sacagawea, York (a black servant belonging to Capt. Clark) and many other members of the Companies and the natives they met along the way. All were dressed in the appropriate clothing of the period.
It was upon seeing the first couple of statues that we noticed something unusual. All of the exposed skin on every statue was gray. The white men were gray, the Frenchmen were gray (come to think of it, this may be accurate), the Indians were gray and the black man was gray! Our guide, who also told us that this exhibit was put together by Disney, explained that it was decided that everyone would be gray so as not to offend any ethnic groups.
It was all done in the name of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!!
Orwellian!
I bet if you took the clothes off the frenchman there would still be a yellow stripe down the back
Just wait until the Grays come down in their spaceship and contact the ACLU.
Hey, I grew up in Lakewood, went to Mayfair. Are you Home Grown?
False, artificially imposed diversity is bound to end in uniformity.
" Our guide, who also told us that this exhibit was put together by Disney, explained that it was decided that everyone would be gray so as not to offend any ethnic groups. "
Oh yeah, (sarcasm)the gray skin will offend cancer victims and their families. Terminal cancer victims skin turns gray right before being diagnosed or death. What a sad commentary on our pathetically politcally correct brain dead society. Nobody has the back bone to stand up and lead, it's all about passing the buck.
Ever see (or read) the Lathe of Heaven?
This is the ultimate in racism, I think - to assume that someone would be ashamed of the color of their skin, or offended to see it accurately displayed.
People of all ethnicities should be absolutely comfortable with their skin color, if not proud of it - but one would get the impression that liberals don't agree.
No, born in NJ and raised in Torrance. Went to Bishop Montgomery HS and El Camino CC.
Been in Lakewood since 1984. Kids went to Lakewood HS.
This is the byproduct of uncontrolled liberalism in the state of California. I live here -- and I know -- and I hate it. This WAS ONCE a great state.
"Our guide, who also told us that this exhibit was put together by Disney, explained that it was decided that everyone would be gray so as not to offend any ethnic groups."
And yet, I'm very offended.
OH, I guess it's relevant to say that I am a member of an ethnic group. No, I'm not from another planet.
So, can we assume from this exhibit the the Confederacy has finally won?
I don't know where you live, but we have some great candidates running thruout the State. Call Arnold's office and tell him they need his support.
You're certain the statues aren't just made of stone?
So, lefties should/MUST be dipicted (PC) as pink? OK, got it. Move on.
No, but I'm familiar with the story.
