FLIP-FLOPS OR WORK BOOTS

CONSERVATIVE TRUTH 09/06/04 Flip-Flops or Work Boots By Tom Barrett Publisher@ConservativeTruth.org

I enjoyed the Republican Convention this week. I endured the Democrat Convention several weeks ago. Those two experiences convinced me of two things: 1) This election may well decide whether or not America survives as a free nation; and 2) Never has there been such stark contrast between two presidential candidates.

As to the first, I am really not worried. After Kerry’s ridiculous Convention in which he pathetically tried to make this election about Viet Nam, and Bush’s magnificent Convention in which he and the other speakers laid out a clear plan to deal with TODAY’S problems, I believe there is very little chance that Kerry could be elected. The American people are much too intelligent to elect a Commander-in-Chief who would turn over our nation’s defense to the UN. Unless something very unusual happens, such as a terrorist attack designed to put Kerry in office, I believe President Bush will continue to protect America for “four more years.”

But I would like to spend a little time highlighting the extreme differences between these two men. You may have heard of some of them, but you may be unaware of others because 85% of reporters have said they will vote for Kerry, so they are keeping a lot of information damaging to Kerry from the American people. Today we will live up to our reputation as “The Antidote to the Liberal News Media” and expose some information that Kerry and his pet media had hoped you would never see.

CAREER. Kerry is a career politician. He is so afraid to face a life without politics that he has not resigned from the Senate. Any Senator with conviction would have done what Bob Dole did when he ran for president. He resigned from the Senate so that the people he represented would not be without representation while he campaigned. On the other hand, Bush knows what it is to work at a real job like us, to start and run a business, to take risks. If (heaven forbid!) he should lose this election, he will go back to private life and enjoy it.

CHURCH. George W. Bush loves Jesus and serves Him, and he is not afraid to share his faith with anyone. But he does not shove his faith down the throat of others, nor does he put anyone down who believes differently. On the other hand John Kerry doesn’t have that problem, because he doesn’t believe in anything. His own Catholic Bishops have admonished him not to take Communion because he supports abortion. The only churches where you see him on the news are a few that violate the law by allowing him to use their services as political rallies. These are the same churches that have allowed the corrupt Jesse Jackson and Fidel Castro in their pulpits.

CHARACTER. John Kerry is a patrician snob. He looks down his nose at the very people he is supposed to serve. George Bush is a regular guy. If you sat down with him at a barbeque, as some of my friends have done, you wouldn’t know he was the most powerful man in the world. And he LOVES the American people, every one of us.

CONSISTENCY. A good friend of mine, Fred Avery, recently sent me his thoughts on Kerry’s favorite sport, windsurfing: “Even his leisure activities depend on which way the wind is blowing.” At the Convention Dick Cheney quipped that the reason the two Johns believe in “Two Americas” is that Kerry has two views on every subject. All of this is true, as his record shows. It is humorous, but it is also scary when you think that this man might hold the lives of your family in his hands. On the other hand, I have never seen George Bush waver on any stand he has taken. After 9-11 he said we would go after the terrorists and capture or kill them. He has done just that. After he inherited the Clinton recession and experienced the devastating financial losses of 9-11 (which resulted from Clinton’s lack of attention to terrorism), he said he was going to put the economy on track again. He had the courage to lower taxes in the face of all that economic loss, and it worked! He doesn’t flip-flop. He rolls up his sleeves and works to keep his promises.

CONTROL. Bush believes the President of the United States should command US troops. The Constitution requires it. On the other hand, for over thirty years Kerry has advocated UN control of our troops and our national defense. He stated this clearly when he came back from his four month tour in Viet Nam; he advocated it in the book he now tries to hide from public view; and he has never repudiated this treasonous statement. By the way, he committed this act of treason while still a commissioned officer of the US Navy. Today he has learned from Bill Clinton to obscure his positions. Instead of openly advocating a UN takeover of our nation’s defenses he talks vaguely of coalitions and “working with our allies” before going to war. But do not forget that he has never repudiated his clear statement that the UN should be in charge of our troops, a situation that would be totally unconstitutional. Bush got forty countries to join us in the effort in Iraq, and told the UN that we did not need its permission to defend our people. Kerry would still be waiting for a permission slip from the UN Security Council, knowing that Germany, France and Russia would have vetoed any action because of their ties to Saddam. And a madman would still be terrorizing the Middle East and his own people while supporting terrorists in other countries.

COMMAND. George Bush’s support for our men and women in the military has never wavered. He has fought for increased pay, benefits, and the best weapons available. On the other hand, John Kerry has earned the visceral hatred of most veterans and military personnel. He lied in his testimony before Congress in 1971, claiming that the common practice, condoned by commanders, was to kill civilians, burn villages, rape women, and murder babies. He knew these were lies as he uttered them, but the lies brought him the attention he needed from the lunatic left fringe to start his political career. But it didn’t stop there. In his almost twenty years in the Senate he has opposed almost every bill that would help our troops, give them better weapons, and strengthen our intelligence systems. The few times he voted for a bill that would increase national security were for purely political reasons. For instance, he voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq because he was running for president and thought it would play well. But then he voted against the bill to give the troops the weapons and body armor they needed to protect themselves. And then he had the gall to criticize Bush and Rumsfeld because some troops didn’t have body armor! No wonder military people, active and retired, hate him and love Bush. Kerry claims to have a “band of brothers.” Bush has an orchestra!

COMBAT. Kerry claims he “volunteered” for the Navy and for service in Viet Nam. The facts are that if he hadn’t joined the Navy he would have been drafted into the army, and those guys have to walk! Both Bush and Cheney have gone out of their way to support the fiction that Kerry is a “war hero” because they are gentlemen. They would never question another man’s service. In fact, they have asked the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, who have spent a few hundred thousand dollars on their ads telling the real truth about Kerry’s service, to stop running them. On the other hand, Bush served the nation honorably in the Air National Guard. Had his unit been ordered to Viet Nam, he would have been at much greater risk than Kerry, because the fighter planes he flew were much more dangerous to the Viet Cong than any river boat. Yet Kerry’s people have spent almost seventy million dollars on vicious attack ads claiming, among other things, that Bush was AWOL, a very serious charge and one they know is a lie. Bush authorized release of ALL of his service records (something Kerry has never done), and they proved that Kerry’s ads were untrue. But Kerry and his buddies keep running the ads, while continuing to insist that The Swift Boat Veterans’ freedom of speech be denied.

COURAGE. John Kerry accomplished nothing during his time in the Senate, mostly because he never had the courage to take a stand and stick to it. Look up the records on the Internet. You won’t find one significant piece of legislation that he sponsored and got passed. How is it possible for a man to spend almost twenty years in the Senate and have nothing to show for it? Simple. He is not a leader. On the other hand, George Bush has proved his courage by protecting our nation from terrorism, turning the economy around, passing important bi-partisan legislation, and reversing the trend toward Socialism in the United States with the most important tax cut in decades. Why has he been able to accomplish so much? He is a leader.

Most of all, this election comes down to who will best protect this nation from terrorists. In case anyone has forgotten in all the election fervor, we are still at war. Bush has done an excellent job at prosecuting the war on terror. He has tracked down and captured or killed most of al Qaeda’s leadership, just as he promised. He has their entire network in shambles through the use of military force, and by forging coalitions with other nations to deny them the money they need to operate. Since 9-11 Bush has prevented further attacks on our nation.

Right after the 9-11 Attacks on America America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani (See link below) said to the New York City Police Commissioner, “Thank God George Bush is President!!”

Thank God, indeed. I can just imagine how Kerry, who has stated that we need to fight a “more sensitive” war on terror, would have reacted. He probably would have started a “dialogue” with Osama bin Laden. “Mr. Bin Laden, I realize that the U.S. is an imperialist nation (Kerry learned that from his North Korean Communist buddies). I’m sure that our support of Israel has caused this terrible anger among your peaceful Muslim people. You have my sincere apologies for whatever we as a nation have done to cause you to do this. What can we do to make this right?” Then he would have gone to the corrupt head of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, and had him ask France and Germany if they thought we should take any action besides apologizing.

Perhaps he wouldn’t have been that bad, but he certainly wouldn’t have been the strong, decisive leader America needed at that time. Bush was, and he still is the best man to be at the helm of America’s ship of state. “Thank God George Bush is President!” Let’s keep him president for four more years. Talk to your friends and family. Send them a copy of this article. Give them a copy of Zell Miller’s speech (See link below).

Zell Miller, a DEMOCRAT Senator spoke at the Republican Convention this week. He told America that the reason he had crossed party lines to support President Bush was that he believed Bush would do the best job of protecting what was most important to him – his family. He did what every American should do – he supported the right man, regardless of party affiliation.

At his Convention, John Kerry attempted to make this election about the Viet Nam war. He thought that his four months in Viet Nam and his five medals, gained under questionable circumstances, would establish him as someone who had the experience to become Commander in Chief. He then followed up by having his attack dogs, including billionaire Socialist George Soros, spend seventy million dollars attacking Bush, particularly on the fact that he served in the National Guard rather than in Viet Nam. This tactic failed, both because there are so many serious questions about what Kerry did or didn’t do in Viet Nam, and because America realizes that we need the Guard here to protect our shores while our men are fighting overseas.

When he couldn’t make this election about a war fought over three decades ago, Kerry claimed that he had a plan to fight terror. Only he refused to give any details about it, saying that we would have to wait until he was elected. This reminded me of all the leaders of other nations who “privately” told Kerry that they wanted him rather than Bush. He refused to name them also.

When all these tactics failed, he tried another tactic. He belatedly came up with a few items for a “domestic agenda”. Lately he has shifted from his “War Hero” status to talking about schools, jobs, and raising taxes to pay for over TWO TRILLION DOLLARS in new government programs he has proposed.

Poor Kerry. He still doesn’t get it. America doesn’t need two trillion more dollars of wasteful government spending, and we sure don’t want more taxes. We need for Congress to make Bush’s tax cuts permanent, and that surely won’t happen if Kerry weasels his way into the White House. Kerry doesn’t understand that this election is about the threat of terrorism, and nothing else.

What will his domestic agenda do for us if Radical Islam detonates dirty nuclear bombs in New York and Washington, DC, and takes over our government? Who is going to care if there are twenty-five or twenty-eight students in a classroom if our schools are run by Islamic extremists? Who will care if the unemployment rate is 3.0 or 3.5 per cent if Islamic terrorists have killed millions of our people?

This election is about leadership. For over a year the polls have clearly demonstrated that Americans of both parties believe that Bush is the man to keep us safe from terrorism. A recent poll about the vice-presidential candidates showed that by a two to one margin our nation feels better about the possibility of Dick Cheney coming Commander-in-Chief as opposed to the wet-behind-the-ears John Edwards.

The bottom line is that John Kerry is not a leader. George Bush is a leader who has been tested by possibly the most difficult four-year term ever served by any president. Friends, America needs a real leader in the White House at this critical point in history. www.conservativetruth.org

I have problems with George Bush, but his courage and determination are not among them.
I've been around blue collar working men all my life.
GW is one of us.
He'd be much more comfortable in a pair of Red Wings than a pair of Gucci's.

I knew a woman in Pennsylvania who insisted on voting for Gore because she felt "guns" were killing too many children. She was a pro-life Catholic yet let that one issue sway her.

If one issue is going to sway me, it will be the safety of this nation - and the two johns just don't have what it takes to keep us safe

I agree.

If I didn't I wouldn't bother going to the poll.
