Kerry picks senior campaign aide

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, under pressure to bring new focus to his campaign, added a veteran political strategist to his travelling campaign entourage, rounding out changes to his senior staff.

Democratic National Committee General Election Manager John Sasso will become the senior campaign staffer aboard the Kerry campaign plane, a key role in the final weeks leading up to the election as the campaign.

Sasso's résumé includes a stint managing the failed 1988 presidential campaign of Michael Dukakis.

These changes come on the heels of the addition of several former top Clinton administration staffers to the Kerry campaign.

Former Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart will oversee the campaign's communications and stragegy operation, CNN has learned.

Former Clinton political advisers Doug Sosnik and Joel Johnson also joined the Kerry campaign in recent weeks.

Kerry advisers called the changes part of the normal evolution of a campaign's staff as election day approaches.

These changes are to protect the Democrat party not to elect kerry.

IOW when clinton spoke to kerry, Kery was told to take one for the team. (or else....)

John Sasso's first assignment: circulate a photo of Kerry in an Army tank.

LOLOL....just listening to Steve Roberts on WABC radio. He said that Kerry will stop talking about Viet Nam and start talking about Haliburton, Enron......LOL........

Never mind that Ken Lay sat on Teresa Heinz' boards....

This ought to bring Dubya's poll numbers higher yet.

I'm just sitting here at the computer thinking how John Kerry is in a bad position that he has absolutely no control over, and it's humorous as all get out. The last impression left on the public was the Pub convention and Bush's speech. Now as Kerry attempts to respond, he's totally drowned out (pardon the pun) by Hurricane Frances, and now Ivan is on the way. Throw in the Russian school disaster, and for the next few weeks, no one is going to be listening to a word either candidate says, but the lasting image remains the hugely successful Pub convention. These other events will kill off most of the month of September, which really leaves Kerry with only the month of October to recover any momentum. And who knows what else will happen in October. Maybe another hurricane or two. So, the weather is doing its part for the Pubs as poor Florida is being bombarded by hurricanes, disastrous as they may be.

Of course we have Kitty Kelly's book smear of the entire Bush family coming out on Sept. 15th, which will cause a little blip, but hopefully the SwiftBoat Vets will come out with something about the same time as the trash book of lies hits, and neutralize any adverse effects caused by it. Even Larry King, who always has Kitty Kelly on his TV program when one of her books comes out, doesn't want her on about this book, as it is so awful and a pack full of lies. Of course, the great unknown is if there is an October surprise by either side right before the elections, and of course the debates will play into the scenario. Will be an interesting 2 months coming up indeed.

If Kerry gets to many ex Clinton people, as aides and advisers, this will be the death of him politically (no pun intended). Remember, all the Clinton's want is for Hillary to run in 08. They will do anything to reach this goal.

Good summary article on Sasso, he plays dirty, and for keeps ...

The Return of John Sasso

ROGER SIMON COLUMN
APRIL 5, 2004

WASHINGTON - - By quietly naming John Sasso to be general election chairman of the Democratic National Committee, John Kerry has served notice that he is no longer afraid of the Michael Dukakis curse. ...

... Sasso put the two tapes together on one tape and leaked the "attack video," as it came to be known, to the New York Times, NBC and the Des Moines Register. All three published the story. None revealed its source.

The story immediately snowballed. Other Biden character flaws were discovered (he had inflated his academic record and had insulted a voter in New Hampshire) and Biden withdrew from the race.

But one question still remained: Who had leaked the attack video?
