The fact is the Bush daughters did come across as ditzes in their little attempt at standup... it was uncooth and unbecoming and did little to aid anything. Frankly I am amazed the campaign gave them the podium.

I have been unimpressed with them or how Laura counsels them since the Inauguration Ball when they wore those crappy gowns

Haven't chanbged my mind since then

Your blog site is replete with total fabrications and outright lies. Likewise, where's the source for the crap you're spouting on this thread? I see no source link, and after reading the screeds you write on your blog I can only assume you are the author of this tripe as well.

Goodbye communist/terrorist supporting troll. If you support Kerry, YOU'RE WITH THEM, NOT US. Why don't you wannabe commies move to a garden spot that supports your political views - Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, Brazil, North Vietnam. Garden spots all - with excellent leaders for those with your beliefs. This nation wasn't founded upon a socialist authoritarian model, and we prefer to keep it that way. We won't be changing after 228 years to suit your desires, so get the Hell out of this nation while you can. It will only get worse for you and the rest of your fellow defectives.

I cannot believe Fox News would stoop so low as to be critical of Our President's Family ...

Maybe that why they call these guys "analists."

Most of their ilk are known as "analysts."

for goodness sake, just because you are the president's daughter does not mean you have to be an excellent speech giver, or an extremely chic dresser (for the record, I am a 21 year old female and i thought that they were well groomed and dressed for hte convention).

The only thing i really did not like about the speech was the sex in teh city jab at barbara bush. lol.

at least they aren';t phoney baloney like the kerry kids.

Let me ask, do you touch yourself with the fingers you typed this nonsense with?

If so, you should be arrested for child abuse.

okay three things...

a) On first look I wasnt impressed with the girls performance.

b) It is my understanding that the 18yr old crowd liked it

c) In retrospect, I thought they reminded me of a litter of puppies. A pair of giggly girls onstage acting like kids. Mr Bush raised some fine daughters there, very human, very refreshing and vulnerable. A very typical american family with standard issue children. I found them to be an example of how normal the bush family is. I was very pleased that Mr Bush chose to share them with the american people.

Which could most appropriately be described as having a chaste and demure presence? Laura or MamaT?

the comments from the "all-star panel" were negative but they weren't all that bad when heard in person (on television)... to me, their comments weren't a big deal... at all... the convention was such a whopping success overall... and most people were talking about Arnold's speech that night anyway... in addition--Laura's speech was well received... in fact, her speech was downloaded the most that night (more than Arnold's)... she's very popular...

One reason why I like "Special Report" with Brit and the gang is that they try to be objective and fair. We get enough spin from the MSM.

I don't always agree with the "All Stars," but in the case of their crticism of the Bush twins, I have to admit that they were mostly on the money...at least as far as the objective, rational part goes.

The Bush girls did come off as ditzes. Worse, they expressed some ideas that can be offensive to the conservative Republican base. They were inappropriate in a public setting with comments regarding Barbara Bush. A national convention is not an appropriate forum for latent teeny-boppers to be alluding to their grandmother's attitudes towards sex. If we start talking about Barbara Bush, the former First Lady, as if she were just another character in "Sex and the City," we debase ourselves. That way leads to wondering about whether Bill Clinton wears boxers or briefs. Some things require decorum not vulgarity. (Take my word for it: I am not a prude.)

Similarly, it is ungracious for the twins to say their grandmother is not hip in front of a national audience. And it doesn't help to contribute to an image of themselves as wastrels and party girls. The Bush girls didn't show their grandmother or themselves enough respect.

Having said all that, the MTV generation probably liked them better and may vote "for them." That's because how the vote goes in an election is not a rational process. People often don't underatnd what motivates them. Which brings me to Laura Bush.

Mrs. Bush personifies dignity and grace. She is hugely popular, with a warmth and natural goodness that has appeal across a broad spectrum.

Many of the moderate women who are undecided and will never know why they wind up picking one candidate over another will do it because they like Laura. When it comes time to pick, they'll figure if Mrs. Bush likes that guy, if she loves him and has made a life with him and raised a family with him (even if the twins are a bit of a problem, just like their own kids), then George is probably okay.

It would take a churl not to feel good about Laura Bush. Don't worry, Mort and Fred, you might be a little curmudgeonly, but I love you guys. It's just that we're not the target audience that Laura's speech was meant to reach. I think Mrs. Bush manged to get to them, though.

I thought their little attempt at comedy was inappropriate given their audience....but do any of you here on FR really think these girls got up there and did this off the cuff? No, this was a written script...the question is who was dumb enough to have written it and approved it? They vetted every speakers speech, and their "introduction" of their father would have certainly been scripted by others. Granted their performance was a little painful, but they are not polished speakers, and being in front of millions would be intimidating to all of us.
I don't think anyone will change their vote based on the Bush twins...but whoever wrote this for them to deliver showed bad judgement.

Froggie, I agree with you. 22-year olds shouldn't bear the ultimate responsibility for the message they deliver at the National Convention.

Either the grown-ups showed bad judgement, or they aimed their mass marketing sights way over my head.

In any case, they were wrong, or their appeal was too cynical for my taste. -OhMike
