It has been posted, and several Freepers responded, saying that it is a red herring. Apparently, Vietnam veterans were not really expected to report for reserve duty. It would not have set well with them to have to stand in formations with, and take orders from, people who hadn't gone, and might not have to go.
Their advice was to drop this line of accusation.
Do you have the aliases of these "several freepers"? Who were they?
I don't think that is true, Rocky. My ex-husband was in the naval reserves and served a 1 yr tour of duty in Vietnam. He also went to reserve meetings until he was discharged. I think it was a 6 yr commitment.
Maybe he has a loophole for being awol, but that doesn't excuse him for the treason. and violation which technicly prevent him from even holding a senate seat.
It does not matter what was expected of VietNam vets. Apparently, missing a National Guard meeting and making it up later was pretty common in Bush's unit.
What matters is did Kerry live up to THE LETTER of his obligation. They started this with whether or not Bush lived up to the letter not the spirit of his obligation. That is their standard and Kerry better have met it or this will be an issue.
