I find it interesting the the Presidential Unit Citation was on the DD215 from 2000 and wonder when it was actually awarded.

The DD-215 is a form which is used to correct the DD-214, which is his separation from active duty.

Many times, awards are made "after the fact". For instance, my DD-214 from my service in Korea qualifies me for four awards. Since that time, at least six awards to which I am qualified have been added.

I didn't ask for a DD-215 but if I had, many if not all would have been added to it.

I suspect that the Unit Citation was awarded after he was separated but included the time that he served in the unit. You might want to investigate it, but it will probably be a dry hole.

Yeah, I know. My husband just submitted his request for some unit citations that he didn't know about.

In Kerry's case, at least one of them was signed by Richard Nixon. I was just hoping. :)
