Brinkley might feel a little used himself.... I suspect that Brinkley, like most people, want direct answers from Kerry about the charges, not impertinent misdirections.

Brinkley's star is hitched to Kerry's right now. If Kerry pulls through this, then Brinkley turns out well. But Brinkley doesn't want to take a chance on Kerry taking a fall and being dragged down with him.

I'd say that Brinkley seems not to have a lot of confidence that Kerry will pull through.

Yep. I have a feeling that he might fear he missed a few things - like not putting 2 and 2 together on his reporting of the rice incident, and the PH records that attribute the "shrapnel" to the later mine incident.

"2 and 2" is probably too harsh - it was a complicated affair of reviewing records, which the Swifties had the inclination and fury to spend a lot of time on.

Exactly. Brinkley relied on his information from KERRY....he supposedly had unprecedented access; the Kerry crew has pointed to Brinkley's book as the "be all end all" facts about Kerry.

Now, how many "clarifications" has Brinkley had to make already? I wish we had kept count.

And the really ironic thing is that the book is exactly what set the Swifties off! Talk about unintended consequences.

As for Brinkley, one could characterize these remarks as "trying to get out in front of the parade," eh?
