Veterans Stadium in Erie PA can't hold much more than 19,000 folks. In fact, I did not think the stadium could hold that many. Perhaps somebody in Erie can verify this. For now, I'll assume the Erie Times account is accurate.
A turnout of 19,000 is phenomenal, considering that Erie is traditionally Democrat, with parts south more Republican, and certainly indicates a surge in the right direction. All the quibbling about poll weighting aside, the momentum must be quite strong to motivate such a turnout in Erie.

It sounds like all the seats were filled, plus they let them stand on the field.

At the same time, 35 enthusiastic supporters crowded onto the front lawn of unemployed performance artist Spartacus Tweedums to listen to a stirring speech by Senator John Kerry.
Kerry was frequently interrupted by spontaneous cheering, "Where's the free beer? Where's the free beer?
At one point John Kerry pointed to a spectator who had fallen out of his lawn chair and proclaimed, "Brother, I know how you feel. President Bush has ruined by equilibrium also."

Actually, the field is used to hold the crowds. The Scranton stadium had a crowd of about 20,000. Most surrounded the platform on the field. Only a portion of the crowd was in the stands.

The stands at Vets Stadium in Erie hold about 10k. The field portion is nothing more than a football field with a running track around it. Much good planning must have went into getting 19k into the Vet.

I posted here last week, before the convention, that Bush had 20,000 in heavily Democratic Troy, OH, and this was by ticket only: he could have had 40,000.

The Keystone State is key.

I have a neighbor who is a deaf lesbian performance artist, and I'm not kidding. I live in fear of Kerry holding one of his gatherings on her porch.

Fear. Heck man, you could get in on the cold KFC and cheap beer action. What is it Kerry says? "Bring it on!"
To: Petronski
Will you come? I'll provide the pig.
