A turnout of 19,000 is phenomenal, considering that Erie is traditionally Democrat, with parts south more Republican, and certainly indicates a surge in the right direction. All the quibbling about poll weighting aside, the momentum must be quite strong to motivate such a turnout in Erie.
It sounds like all the seats were filled, plus they let them stand on the field.

At one point John Kerry pointed to a spectator who had fallen out of his lawn chair and proclaimed, "Brother, I know how you feel. President Bush has ruined by equilibrium also."
Actually, the field is used to hold the crowds. The Scranton stadium had a crowd of about 20,000. Most surrounded the platform on the field. Only a portion of the crowd was in the stands.

I posted here last week, before the convention, that Bush had 20,000 in heavily Democratic Troy, OH, and this was by ticket only: he could have had 40,000.
The Mayor went to this event; I'm awaiting a ping and pics when he posts and tells us about this.
We were going to go, but only found out about it this morning.
