I heard somewhere this week that Ben Barnes, the one 60 minutes is doing an interview with, has denied ever pulled strings for Bush on many occasions, once even under oath. Anyone else hear this?
Yes, I heard this. Ben Barnes, Democrat, Lt. Governor of Texas 1969-1973, current Kerry campaign supporter and fundraiser, claims to have helped get Bush into the National Guard when he was Lt. Governor. I saw a video clip of him saying this. As I recall, Bush entered the Guard in 1968, so Ben's memory must be faulty. There are plenty of folks contradicting him, including the fellow that kept the waiting list for Guard applicants and the person Bush interviewed with to get into the Guard. Watch to see if CBS presents any information contradictory to Barnes' claims.
