President's Speech From Republican National Convention Now Available Free From iTunes Music Store
iTunes Music Store ^ | 9/4/2004 | President George W. Bush

Posted on 09/04/2004 6:39:01 AM PDT by Boss_Jim_Gettys

Another check of the iTunes music store today and they have now posted the speeches from Thursday, including President Bush's! It is completely unedited (1 hour 2 minutes!). They are being made available as free audiobook downloads. Requires iTunes for Mac (OS X) or Windows (2000 or XP) (available here) plus an iTunes account. If you already have iTunes software and an account, clicking on the source URL for this thread should take you to President Bush's speech. Search "RNC" to find all 21 speeches available.

I have posted updates on this during the week. Others have responded with alternative sources of both audio and video, but so far I have not found anything that matches the quality found here. For the brave amongst us, the DNC speeches are also available by searching "DNC" at the iTunes Music Store.

Thanks for the URL -- I downloaded Zell Miller's speech.

If you couldn't understand the Michael W. Smith song right before President Bush's speech, it's on iTunes and called "There She Stands."

Warning: Requires iKleenex, sold separately.

Thanks, anonymous. Had to spend $0.99 to get that one! LOL

Small price to pay to make my convention CD's complete.

Thanks for the ping Jim. I've downloaded Zell Miller's speech and am going to burn it to a CD to give to my liberal brother for Christmas.

Unfortunately, it requires an account, which requires a credit card. I have no intention of purchasing anything from that store, so I'm not giving them my CC info.

This is absurd. I've never seen a legitimate service that required CC on registration.

"This is absurd. I've never seen a legitimate service that required CC on registration."

This has been a subject of complaint since the store opened. The reason they do this is because of the digital rights management agreement they have with the record companies. The agreement is on a country-by-country basis so, for example, you cannot buy songs from the U.S. store if you live in Canada or Australia or anywhere else. The way they determine where you live is from the billing address on your credit card.

They will not bill you anything for the free content, but I understand if you are not comfortable with giving out your CC info.

Yeah I second that, I do not trust my CC info in anyone's database, I prefer the online stores that let you enter the CC info at time of purchase where it is then discarded and not stored in a DB on their systems.

Working in IT security I know there is no such thing as a 100% secure system.

Although I suppose somewhere this is info is online, say at the bank itself, but you can only do so much :)

FYI, the iTunes Music Store now has the live version from the RNC available here.

I can't help but be amused when all these Luddites who steadfastly refuse to use their credit cards for online purchases routinely hand their credit cards over to clerks in stores and waitresses in restaurants. That is far more dangerous!
