It's hard to criticize John Kerry these days. Apparently, every criticism of him is unfair. At least, we're not supposed to criticize his time in Vietnam -- or even what he's said about Vietnam more recently -- because that would be a "smear" (even when the Kerry campaign admits, as it has regarding Kerry's Christmas-in-Cambodia claims, that he hasn't been telling the truth). That he served in Vietnam 35 years ago, we're told, tells us all we need to know about his character.

The other day when I read he was "furious" at his staff because they hadn't had him answer the Swiftvets soon enough, I thought of the poor SS agent who was blamed for knocking Kerry down when he was skiing.
Always somebody else's fault! But I actually heard Andrea Mitchell discuss during the convention that Kerry's problems were because he insisted on running his own campaign and ignoring advisors.
Oh well, works for me!

What a hit by a "Slate" writer!
But I'm afraid they don't know how good Kerry can be in the end. He's smart and he's got a plan. He must be knocked off track by getting him to focus on his miserable Senate record. And even then we had better be ready for that approach or he'll bamboozle the undecideds.

If Kerry is going to pin bad intelligence on Iraq on Bush saying,"The buck stops with the president" I say to John Kerry, "Your running for president and the buck stops with you, for your limp wristed Nazi response to the swift boat ads. Don't blame your staff your supposed to be a leader, if your elected as president are you going to be leading or being lead? You just admitted that you were not in control of your campaign, why should we let you control our country?"
To: SolomoninSouthDakota
He may be a good campaigner MA but not in the USA. He's an arrogant snob who certainly hasn't exhibited any noticeable intelligence.

This article is a must read: Kerry's Disloyal Nicaraguan Journey. What Kerry did in Vietnam, he did in Nicaragua, and he is trying to do in Iraq.
Kerry's MO is stir up trouble, get others to cover his *ss, hide when it gets too hot, leak lies to smear the opposition, bribe informants to lie . . . and then whine.
Visit my John F. Kerry Timeline.

He does not want to be questioned. He went to Vietnam, and therefore, he simply will not have any questions about whether he has the qualifications to be President. Come on, that's a roar, isn't it?......One question for voters -- among many, many others that we're apparently not supposed to be asking -- is this: If Kerry can't run a campaign, how can he run the Presidency?
Even Slate gets it or the author lurks here.
To: SmithL
i think he was IN BETWEEN viet nam and cambodia, or maybe he was in france. i forget.

Watch out! There's a baby hamster behind you getting ready to attack! I just know it's going to win against any battle efforts on your part.

"You just admitted that you were not in control of your campaign, why should we let you control our country?"That is a very valid, and disconcerting, point. Not only does he have an obvious problem accepting responsibility, but committees participation notwithstanding, neither of the Johns has a bit of experience at managing on a national level, let alone international.
Whether you agree across the board with the current administration or not, these are not times for a crap shoot with a couple of rookies.
To: christie
Did you do all that work for that Timeline? Very Impressive!

A friend of mine tracked me down a little while ago to relate a dream. He was walking through a big office that he realized was the headquarters of the Kerry campaign. He saw a door marked "Campaign Manager" and entered, to see Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill, appropriately enough, sitting behind the desk. As he drew nearer, however, the woman suddenly ripped off her Cahill mask, behind which was ... Susan Estrich, Michael Dukakis' campaign manager! At that point, he woke up screaming. Whew! I can relate.
