A millionaire like him could've married a younger, better looking woman.
He also could've married a woman like Teresa, who was not a billionaire.
So he didn't go for a younger, prettier woman. He didn't fall in love with a similar woman for her personality, and women like Teresa are a dime a dozen (minus her billions). That only leaves her money...
All things considered, the money and the life and power it promised was probably just too tempting. If he knew he was running in 2004 for President, a rich wife would provide the cushion he'd need so he could invest millions of his own money to kick start a campaign.
This is a man who thinks he's a genius and does a lot of pre-planning when it comes to his Presidential aspirations. He just doesn't have the attention to detail and stamina to keep track of everything he's doing to be successful. He alienates his aides and people who would help him because he thinks he is smarter than everyone around him. So he tries to stick his fingers into every pie, and he interferes constantly with the work of very able and capable aides.
When something fails, he blames someone other than himself, every single time.

Sound familiar? I wonder if comparing John Kerry to Napoleon Bonaparte would be valid... You know, John Kerry all the flaws of Napoleon, and half the ability. ;-)
