It is worth considering what the actual moral duty of any sincere Chechen nationalist who is not one of these monsters is, after this. I see it this way.

To avoid being stained with deeds like this, they should do more than repudiate and condemn them. They should also announce that they are forgoing their independence claims - in the interests of peace and putting a stop to this - for ten years. That after that, they reserve the right to petition for independence, though not to seek it by violence. That in the meantime, they fully support the Russian authorities, in the interest of restoring civil order and getting rid of these monsters.

That is the honest thing to do. (It would also be the honest thing to do in Kashmir, and in Israel).
