From "Wolf Blitzer Reports" staff CNN Thursday, September 2, 2004 Posted: 5:26 PM EDT (2126 GMT) NEW YORK (CNN) -- Talking about his own party Thursday night, Democrat Zell Miller said, "Our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because of the Democrats' manic obsession to bring down our commander in chief." Talking about Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, Miller said, "This is the man who wants to be the commander in chief of our U.S. Armed Forces? U.S. Forces armed with what? Spit balls?" Miller's keynote address to the Republican National Convention was a passionate and pointed attack. "Motivated more by partisan politics than by national security, today's Democratic leaders see America as an occupier, not a liberator. And nothing makes this Marine madder than someone calling American troops occupiers rather than liberators," Miller said. His remarks came in sharp contrast to earlier convention speeches from moderate Republicans like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rudy Giuliani.

I'M A Zell Man- As sung to Chrissy Matthews
Coming to you, down convention road,
Got my speech and its a double load,
And when the Democrats get it,they got something,
So don't worry, I'm coming,
I'M Zell the man,
I'm Zell the man'
I'M Zell the man'
I'm Zell the man.
Got what I got, the hard way,
I didn't get it shuttling around some Massachusetts Bay,
So John Kerry ,don't you fret,
Cause I'm coming and you ant seen nothing yet,
I'm Zell the man, ow!
I'm Zell the man, play it Chris
I'm Zell the man, ow!
I'm Zell the man, huh, listen!
I was brought up on a Georgia street,
Learned how to fight, before I could eat,
I was educated, from good stock,
When it comes to America's sovereignty, I can stop
I'm Zell the man,
I'm Zell the man,
I'm Zell the man'
I'm Zell the man.
You need help, I'll pull you in,
Try to fool America, I'll break your chin
I'm Zell the man,
I'm Zell the man,
I'm Zell the man,
I'm Zell the man,
I,m Zell the man,
I'm Zell the man.
My husband HATES politics and I had to beg to get to watch the speech. He went bonkers! He was actually cheering Zell.
You're dangerously close to making perfect sense. Be careful.
Hey! It's Blitzers people......pay no attention.
Wolf At His Best: Click Here For The Thread
Wolf Blitzer, during a roundtable discussion with two other guys, brought up the "Purple heart band-aid" gimmick used by some delegates at the GOP convention to ridicule Kerry. Wolf then said, "This kind of thing could backfire if it is viewed as a slam against veterans who DID earn their Purple Hearts."
Wow, the media, I hope, is getting paid by the Dems to be their spin machine. I have not seen such liberal bias since 1994 when the GOP took over congress. They are like the mob. They silence their critics. Go to www.mrc.org - they chart out obvious bias. It is funny
Hanoi Jane and CNN wish.
I worked in the newspaper industry for nearly 20 years and knew of the obvious liberal bias. It really didn't seem like that big of a deal at first, but this Swift Boat issue really exposed the main stream media as leftist nuts. I truly wonder how they expect to have any respect after this election.
This is a "the sky is falling" alert. And I'm lovin' the hell out of it.
The only people who are saying that Miller was "too hot" or went "over the top" are the folks who weren't going to vote for Bush anyway. Their desperate and they are grabbing at whatever they can .... and the media is doing everything in it's power to help the hapless Dems.
Wolf Blitzer can't even get what day it is straight and Chris Mathews called Zell Miller a "conservative Republican Senator from Georgia."
Don't ask me to take these creeps seriously.
Here's what Zell did: he said what 60% of the population feels about their families, their Country, and about their Soldiers.
The fact is that this Country will only survive if it can summon a fierce Nationalism. That's what he was asking, that's what most of us want to give. There is always a chance that Nationalism, taken too far, imbibed for too long, can transmogrify into a beast that turns on its master, but the chance of that happening here is very slim.
We like peace, we don't need more 'living space', we basically want to be left alone, so I'm not too worried. I am an American who emigrated here in 1958 from Italy, and I have an overwhelming sense of Nationalism for this Blessed Country.
Just as they portrayed every American victory in Vietnam as an American loss, they'll try to portray every Republican victory as a loss.
Will Zell Backfire on the GOP
Well, CNN surely is trying.
I will tell you how this is going to backfire. I just came home from having drinks with my VERY liberal 73 year old friend Clark. He hated Bush and voted for Gore.He told me tonight from out of the blue that he heard Arnold's speech and then Zell Miller. he said he did not realize till then what was going on and now he is going to vote for Bush. I almost fell off my bar stool ...
Geez, they wish. Edwards says that it is sad and mean. Boo-fricken-hoo.
I agree with your premise, but disagree on the scope of the effect.
Zell Miller's speech was what they call in the flying game, "The Golden BB" -- that tiny little projectile, insignificant in the the vast amount of anti-aircraft fire, that finds that particular spot that can do the most possible damage to its target! They can't call Zell a red-meat partisan Rep, because he is a Dem! The best they can do is, rather than defend against the specific allegations, make note of the fact that Zell worked for Lester Maddox once upon a time. (It's strange that was in long forgotten past when he was a Dem and "on the reservation"?)
I've talked to several folks today who saw the speech --- it was a direct hit in a very soft spot of the Kerry campaign!! Everyone who saw the speech said that they now see Kerry in a very different light.
Not a half-point, I think it's more like a point and a half!
Exactly .. the typical trial balloon to see if anybody else in the media will pick it up.
Zell's speech with backfire like the Swift Vets did.....yeah, right, Wolf.
