Once white boys starting making credible rock n' roll of their own, his star faded and he was relegated to the Perry Como ghetto--a nostalgia act for the hopelessly square. As an actor, he's limited by his public image. He's a walking joke of squareness. If that's what you want, he's your man. If you don't want that very specific thing, he's all wrong. And blaming Hollywood's blacklist is the oldest excuse in the book. I've heard gays claim they're blacklisted by straights. I've heard straights claim they're blacklisted by gays. I've heard hardcore leftists and rightists each complain they're blacklisted by the other. And on and on it goes. Usually it's an excuse.
