Obviously, her doctorate studies never covered the topic of "banishment." Most societies practiced banishment as a way of ridding themselves of those that violated social taboos, while maintaining the illusion of not direct killing of the violator. (They usually died out of sight and at a time and in a way unknown to the tribe that banished them.)

So no, loyalty to the tribe or to blood relatives does not outweigh social demands to conform to tribal moral values.

Actually, a lot of states used to have laws against "fornication" (IOW giving it away for free). But they were never enforced so your statement is essentially true.
