A NORTH Wales man's hobby of shooting his air pistol at trees and signs in a wood has landed him in hot water.
Police saw him walking along a road near Holywell and he was carrying a pistol which was loaded.
At Flintshire Magistrates' Court yesterday, Paul Trevor Donnelly, 25, of Moor Lane, Holway, Holywell, admitted unlawfully possessing the pistol in Greenfield Road in Holy-well, on August 8.
Magistrates gave him a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £55 costs.
Justin Espey, prosecuting, said he told police he had simply been shooting the gun at signs and trees in the woods.
Police officers had taken the view he lacked maturity and accepted there was nothing sinister in his possession of the gun.
The weapon had been seized, and it will be destroyed.
Phillip Marshall-Thomas, defending, said Donnelly was not a worldly-wise man.
Shooting the gun in the woods and in the fields was one of his few pleasures in life and there was no suggestion he had aimed it at anyone.
"It was a little bit of a pastime for him but unfortunately he had to go on the public highway because the fields were about 100 yards away from the woods.
"He put the safety catch on and he believed that he would be all right, " said Mr Marshall-Thomas.
Ahhh, the joys of Socialism.
Looks like some animals are more equal than others in their world.
This makes zero sense. If it was acceptable to have the "gun" why was it taken away and destroyed?
You can own a BB gun, but you just can't shoot it.
A pellet gun. You could shoot yourself thousands of times with it and never draw blood.
Sad, so sad. The socialists will soon have us putting coins into a machine before we can breath their air.
Let us all say, never, never in our lifetimes will we submit to these 8astards.
Amen brother.

Cymru am byth! - Wales Forever!
(You should drive the roads of rural Louisana -- and try to find a road sign without bullet holes...)
I'm as pro-gun as they come -- but I was taught (and taught my kids) that trees and signs are not appropriate targets. (Doesn't Wales have tin cans for air pistol targets? ...lined up against a suitable backstop, of course...)
Even as a kid with my first Daisy Red Rider BB gun, I would have considered this guy a wacko for strolling around, zapping anything that didn't move...
I am vehemently against "gun control" -- but, IMHO, this bozo was out of control.
Amen!
you could put somebody's eye out with one of those things.
Tom Jones is soooo glad he got outta there.
