MAD AS ZELL
New York Post ^ | 09/02/04 | STEFAN C. FRIEDMAN

Posted on 09/01/2004 11:52:45 PM PDT by conservative in nyc

With a raucous Republican crowd urging him on, Sen. Zell Miller unleashed a white-hot attack on fellow Democrat Sen. John Kerry last night — charging that the Massachusetts pol's anti-terror policies add up to a "bowl of mush."

As the first member of an opposing party to deliver the keynote address at a national convention, Miller used his prime-time slot to slam Kerry with some of the most vitriolic language heard during the GOP gathering.

After listing a slew of defense programs that Kerry voted against during his Senate career, Miller asked, "This is the man who wants to be commander in chief of our U.S. Armed Forces? U.S. Armed forces armed with what, spitballs?"

The 72-year-old Georgian — who despite his party affiliation almost always votes with President Bush — was relentless in his attacks on not only Kerry's Senate record, but also on the way he would prosecute the war on terror.

"George W. Bush wants to grab terrorists by the throat and not let them go to get a better grip," Miller said. "From John Kerry, they get a 'yes-no-maybe' bowl of mush that can only encourage our enemies and confuse our friends."

And delivering one of his famed "Zell's Zingers," he shot down Kerry's oft-repeated criticism of Bush for not getting the approval of other nations to invade Iraq.

"Kerry would let Paris decide when America needs defending," Miller jabbed. "I want Bush to decide."

I should write headlines for the New York Post --- I predicted this one on the live thread. And it's a good one at that.

Unfortunately, the front page has Kobe. I question the timing of the dismissal of charges....
