When this campaign is over, some one will be able to write a fat book on all the blatant ways the media protected Kerry, while hounding Bush with silly, unproven charges.

What does the media have to gain from protecting Kerry? Why does ANYONE want Kerry elected? What will he do for anyone? (I'm sincerely seeking the answer to this. The only answer I can come up with is that for those without principles, Kerry would be the candidate that would most likely make them feel good about themselves. But what else does he have to offer? What motivates anyone to like him or vote for him?)

What else do you think it is all about for these people?

Remember the days of the Great White Hope? When black men started winning titles, the media scurried for a passable white guy who might be thought to be a contender. Most of them were awful, plodding, no talent bums. Well, Kerry is the Great Democratic Hope. The media hopes that this guy is Dukakis proof because he served in Vietnam (didn't think that one through, did they), that he's a credible alternative to Bush.
