New Starring Role(Schwarzenegger Hits a Grand Slam)
The Orange County Register ^ | 9/1/2004 | Martin Wisckol & Dena Bunis

From recycling much of his recall-election stump speech of a year ago to calling critics of the economy "girlie men" to asserting that "we're back" from the attack on the American way of life, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger lit up the Republican convention with his freewheeling star power Tuesday.

Delegates could hardly have been more thrilled by the prime-time show.

"This puts him over the top as a national political figure, not just an action figure," said delegate and Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle.

But the task for Schwarzenegger extended far beyond the faithful gathered at Madison Square Garden. Many expected the actor-politician to attract more television viewers than any speaker other than the president. He topped a lineup of speakers designed to attract those who might not share George W. Bush's positions against abortion, against expanded funding of stem-cell research and against further gun control.

Because he showed in running for California governor that he had mass appeal, Republicans also hope that he can motivate people to the polls who might not otherwise turn out. Part of that could come from those inspired by his rags-to-riches immigrant story – particularly immigrants themselves, who have traditionally gravitated toward Democratic candidates.

"To my fellow immigrants listening tonight, I want you to know how welcome you are in this party," he said after recounting his immigrant experience, similar to that part of the speech he gave while campaigning last year. "We Republicans admire your ambition. We encourage your dreams. We believe in your future."

I live in America and see big Democrat names giving campaign speeches and making appearances for Kerry, thank you.

I don't want Arnold to be President of the United States, I want him to be President of the United Nations.

It took Cali a lot of years to get so messed up. Do you really think one person can fix it so fast?

I'm finished with this thread...
I don't have the time or the inclination to go over for the thousandth time what has already been covered ad nauseum...
McClintock had a plan to cut the budget by 17% which would have brought it into balance next year...
but we have a RINO who has done nothing but add more debt and enlarge the already enormous budget and debt to third world proportions...more loans, more bonds, higher fees and more smoke and mirrors...and he now wants to add another 3 billion dollars in a bond issue for embryonic stem cell research which has been documented to be a total scam...
there has not been one medical break through with embryonic stem cell research! Not one!

At this point,I'm ready for another recall!

It's quite obvious that we are going to have to govern this state by recall and referendum because the morons in Sacramento just don't get it!!!

He just signed bills for state funded embryotic stem cell research and an open (Louisiana style) primary where only the top two vote getters are in the general election, even if they're form the same party.

Also I've heard from a reliable source in the CRP that he won't campaign for the President or any other Republicans in CA, because he considers it a lost cause and doesn't want to upset the other side.
