Football Legend Lynn Swan Supports President Bush
NewsMax .com ^ | 9/01/04 | Carl Limbacher

A Pittsbugh Steelers football legend tells NewsMax why he supports President Bush:

"It's an election year, and I'm involved in this particular campaign as co-chair for the African-American committee for the re-election of George Bush. "I'm here at the convention. I'm learning quite a bit and enjoying the experience."

Lynn Swan said he had not been active in politics before, though he added, "I have supported Republican candidates in the past, but this is the first time that I just really come out and kinda finally have an influence."

Swan said this year had a "a sense of urgency."

"I certainly believe that George W. Bush is the most qualified and most credible candidate to fulfill the role as president of the United States."

As for converting African Americans to the Republican Party, Swan said, "We are making inroads, and I think that is all you can do.

"We need to work and to deliver our message and let people know the information and make a conscious and intelligent decision."

Doesn't Lynn Swan know that John Kerry and Teresa Heinz are EXPERTS ON FOOTBALL?

(But I'm still PO'd about that pass interference call you drew in the Super Bowl against Dallas.)

As is Jerome Bettis. And Tommy Maddox. Must be that Pittsburgh water. (Dan Marino is too)

Jason Sehorn was on Fox last night and said that locker rooms are usually much more conservative than the rest of the US, which surprised me given the disproportionate number of blacks on NFL teams.

I sure hope he has an extra security detail at the convention. He is sure a brave guy. Here's to Swannie, and all those many African Americans who were surprisingly in huge attendance last night, judging from the pan shots.
I honestly think GWB is going to pull about 12 or 14 per cent of the AA vote from Kerry.
I noticed about three months ago a Gallup Poll, in which Bush very quietly had 12% of the Black vote in his column. Nothing was made of it. NO one pointed it out. This is typical of Bush: work behind the scenes, and do a fabulous "gotcha" to the media.

If I'm not supposed to care if entertainers support liberal and Democratic causes, then I don't care if they support conservative and Republican ones.

Well, think about it this way: These guys make HUGE amounts of money that THEY have to take out taxes for themselves, much like small business owners. When you have to write the check yourself, you pay attention to what politicians are saying. A lot of these guys are also fairly religious. Some are about as far as can be from angels, but a lot of footballers DO have religious roots. They are also used to having whackos flocking to them to do harm, which is why many are armed. They see first-hand how confiscatory tax initiatives and gun-grabbers are a threat to their way of life.

Seems like Rush talked about this as well a few years ago.

Not sure I buy that. The rich are removed from the problems that you and I face. Consider the Hollywood types for example.

Swann stumped with Rick Santorum in the Spring.

The local pubbies in particular are pushing him very hard to run for office, especially locally.

He's got a dynamite personality, he's a reverse transplant (having grown up in So. Cal., he adopted Pittsburgh as his home), and he's got enormous name recognition.

I left out that he and Santorum were stumping for W.

Swann is currently a member of the administration, at least part-time.

Franco Harris showed up to help Kerry at a Pittsburgh Rally. The Rooney's had Al Gore at a practice before the 2000 election. I guess Dan Rooney is a democratic suppoter as I saw him with Gore on that photo op? Very disappointing unless someone knows otherwisw? Tunch Ilkin former lineman I Believe is a conservative.

Vade, Vade, Vade...can't we move on? Let it go, let it go....you will be a better person for it;)

Lynn Swann is a class act, and I believe he still maintains a residence in the Pittsburgh area, and he does alot of charity work (the members of the Steeler's dynasty still can draw a huge crowd in the land of Black and Gold.) Sadly, Franco Harris has gone over to the dark side...Lynn Swann has been shown at President Bush's campaign visits here, Franco has been at Kerry's. For what it is worth, Franco (in media) always seems sullen...Swan always appears cordial and personable. Just my observation.

I was THERE when Swann made his acrobatic catches and beat my beloved Cowboys in the Super Bowl. I hated him then, and I hated him yesterday . . . but, hell, I guess I'll have to reconsider now.

By the way, they're not my Cowboys any longer. My brother was part of the Cowboys medical team that was unceremoniously and ruthlessly tossed out, along with Tom Landry, when His Highness Jones bought the team.
