Dog handler: Scott Peterson made odd requests during collection at home
Scott Peterson
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. A dog handler who supervised the K-9 search-and rescue efforts in the days after Laci Peterson's disappearance told jurors Tuesday morning about the unusual requests Scott Peterson made of him during a brief interview at the defendant's dining room table.
"He asked me not to take notes on the table," said Christopher Boyer, volunteer captain of the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department search-and-rescue team. "He said he didn't want his table damaged."
Prosecutors were attempting to demonstrate that Peterson's behavior after his wife's disappearance was cold and uncaring, that he was more concerned with the condition of his furniture than the matter at hand finding his missing, pregnant wife.
Boyer testified that directly before that Dec. 26, 2002 interview, he assisted in collecting "scent articles," items belonging to Laci Peterson, including a hairbrush from the master bedroom, a pink slipper, a green and brown slipper, and sunglasses in a case removed from her purse.

Expert: Dog detected Laci Peterson's scent at marina
Defense lawyers question reliability of canine-tracking evidence

REDWOOD CITY, California (AP) -- Prosecutors are trying to prove Scott Peterson took his wife's body by truck to a marina, where they say he ferried her out onto San Francisco Bay and dumped her weighted body.
A search dog handler testified Tuesday that her canine picked up Laci Peterson's scent at the marina where her husband launched what he says was a solo fishing trip the day his wife vanished.
Eloise Anderson, a dog handler with the Contra Costa County Search and Rescue team, said the Labrador named Trimble came to the Berkeley Marina on December 28, 2002, four days after Peterson reported his pregnant wife missing.
Anderson said Trimble found Laci's scent and followed it from the parking area, along a tree line and down ......

Construct your own Peterson scenario
Murder cases often bring the amateur Nero Wolfes out en masse, and the death of Laci Peterson is no exception.
Since her disappearance in December 2002, many folks have espoused theories about what happened, and they continue to do so even as the trial in Redwood City progresses.
Calls and letters come from all over the world in a case that, while sometimes tiring to local readers, maintains a huge level of interest. Callers and letter writers range from those with admitted fixations on the story to folks with a casual interest and plenty of time on their hands.
We've gotten calls from psychics -- they must have known we wanted to hear from them -- and those who rely on their gut instincts.
Some believe steadfastly that Scott Peterson killed his wife and unborn son. Others defend him, claiming he is the innocent victim of railroading by the authorities and the media..........

Marina is where the scent ended
REDWOOD CITY -- A specially trained dog followed Laci Peterson's 4-day-old scent along a pier at Berkeley Marina, where the missing woman's husband had launched a boat the day she disappeared, the dog's handler testified Tuesday.
The dog indicated that the missing mother-to-be came in through a marina parking lot entrance, but didn't leave that way or by another exit from the lot, dog handler Eloise Anderson testified as jurors listened attentively.
Authorities say Scott Peterson killed the substitute teacher and their unborn son, Conner, on or just before Christmas Eve 2002. They are seeking the death penalty.
The remains of mother and son were recovered nearly four months later less than two miles from the launch site.
Also Tuesday, testimony suggested that Scott Peterson lied to an officer about Laci Peterson's wallet.......

Expert: Dog detected Lacis scent at marina
REDWOOD CITY -- A search dog handler testified Tuesday that her canine picked up Laci Petersons scent at the marina where Scott Peterson launched what he says was a solo fishing trip the day his wife vanished.
Eloise Anderson, a dog handler with the Contra Costa County Search and Rescue team, said the Labrador named Trimble came to the Berkeley Marina on Dec. 28, 2002, four days after Peterson reported his pregnant wife missing.
Anderson said Trimble found Lacis scent and followed it from the parking area, along a tree line and down a pier, where the dog stopped at a pylon at the waters edge.
The dog then "stopped, checked out over the water, the wind was coming into her face turned around and gave me end-of-trail indication," Anderson said.
Prosecutors allege Peterson killed his wife in their Modesto home on or around Dec. 24, 2002, then drove to the marina and dumped her body in San Francisco Bay. Her remains and those of the couples fetus washed ashore in April 2003, not far from where Peterson launched his fishing trip. .....
PINGING>....
PINGING>....
I think he did it but some of this "evidence" is tin-foil, late-night, full-moon, open phones, call-in c-r-a-p. No one pointed out yesterday that her own brother talked about her in the *past* tense saying, "she LOVED you(Scott)." And who isn't going to feel at least somewhat resigned by the time it's been 22 days?
This case is taking WAAAAY too long.
Possibly a dumb question here, but if Scott or anybody else had taken Laci's body down to the marina, carefully wrapped so as to hide it, would the dog have been able to get scent from that? Or, would the dog have been able to get her scent from Scott--as they lived in the same house, touched, etc.? Seems to me that it would be entirely possible that Scott would have had Laci's scent on him given that he was her husband.
There are plenty of things that make me want to kick Scott and it's clear that he was a complete jerk. I also think that he's a sociopath and doesn't feel things as normal people feel them. He's also quite the liar, but if I were going to be called on to convict such that he'd get the death penalty in this case, I'd still want more than I've heard so far.
I have to agree that if it was a nice wood table and the guy had a ballpoint pin, I can understand people telling him to write elsewhere.
Nobody wants the handwriting of the cadaver dog handler permanently pressed into your nice dinner table.
Morning Slim!
Be back later...
Only problem with that line of reasoning, is that the dog would have followed the Laci on Scott scent OUT of the area.
"Anderson said Trimble found Laci's scent and followed it from the parking area, along a tree line, and down..."[ending on the pier.]
Oh, defense attorney Pat Harris explained all that. See, Laci's skin rafts had gotten into a duffel bag at the house, and Scott opened the duffel bag while at the Berkeley Marina.
So, let's see, Scott took the open duffel bag and shook it in the parking area, walked along the tree line shaking it some more, kept shaking it as he walked down the pier...
Oh, okay.

It's about Janey Peterson's dad, Tom Katsis. You're gonna love it!
They are not going to get to use the hit on the tarp at the house...just heard it on the news this morning...I thought the pier was already the only thing the pros were going to be allowed to use...Perhaps it was the only dog tracking evidence already approved.
Thanks for the pings RB, as I suggested before this does NOT say the dogs followed Laci's scent TO THE PIER, they picked it up AT THE PIER which says to me he had dumped the body the night before and came back to sink it permanently. As he was taking his boat out of the water AT THE PIER, her scent was NOW detectable. Just trying to go with the evidence, and to try to see things in a different perspective. What's so hard to believe that he had her dead scent on him and thats why the first thing he did was take a shower and once he removed his clothes her trail ended. But it started in the bay, not in the house ...the opposite of what's been stated IMHO !
But that's the beauty of it. You're a lawyer, aren't you? One can find him guilty, but also firmly decide not to give him the death penalty.
It is often written that people would want very good evidence if the defendant might actually face the death penalty. But in a death penalty case, regarding the guilt phase, the standard of proof is: beyond a reasonable doubt. Just b/c a juror convicts him there, does NOT condemn him to death. That is a whole separate determination, and a juror may find him guilty but still refuse to vote for death.
Searching, this poster makes a really good point in his Post 11.
Not to mention that according to detailed testimony, her brother's alibi was checked carefully, and he was.. *surprise!*.. found to have been not in Modesto or Berkeley, but in his own home town, at the pertinent times.
Right. He clearly couldn't afford to buy new furniture. His finances were a mess, with his paying minimum monthly balances on his many credit accounts.
But, during the same time period, he could afford to offer to pay for his girlfriend to take a trip out of town, and to help pay her monthly bills, which included such things as an $800 cellphone bill.
Yes, he wanted the furniture kept nice, because (the testimony tells us) he was eager to sell it as soon as possible.
Yet he was not the least bit afraid that when they found his wife and she came home, she'd ask, "Where is our furniture? Where is our house? Where is my car?"
Considering that all these things were being sold or attempted to be sold by him, during the same time period.
