Sorry for starting this thread so early. Is this like calling "shotgun" three days before the trip starts LOL?
I was trying to find out the time that the Senator's speech will occur. I found nothing at the Legion website (www.legion.org), nor at the Kerry site, nor at CSPAN. When will the speech be given?
Anyway, here is a thread for people to post their comments.
Well then he's going to have to reinstitute the draft because most active duty soldiers say they won't serve under him.
I get your drift. I just don't get the psychology of some people. Clearly, the CW was he was going to have a rough time.
IF we thought it was just going to be a banal Kerry event, we wouldn't have had this kind of thread.
I'm content to mix it up and challenge my fellow freepers.
I didn't see or hear the speech, but from your comments and what's been printed here, it looks as if he stayed as far away from anything to do with his own behavior in Vietnam or later on as possible...except for taking credit for looking into veterans' needs, seeing they were being short-changed, and doing something about it. All vague statements, a lick and a promise as my mom was wont to say when I didn't wash up properly...she'd send me back to the sink. Kerry whisked right by the stuff he should have apologized for. You'd have thought that war never happened in the Kerry universe.
As for the tight camera shots and dark lighting, that sounds suspicious. You all thought it was to hide a nearly empty hall, something Kerry's gotten used to lately. God forbid the tv camera broadcast that! Only a few handshakes means that not many wanted to shake his hand. He's dead as a doornail. Maybe realizing the missus' money can't bail out the sinking boat. He'll be very bitter. If you think Gore was upset, wait until Nov. 2 and Bush drop kicks Kerry into outer space.
Funny as heck last night when pundits didn't want to talk about this election, but were only too willing to speculate on who'd run in '08. Clearly they know a lot more than we do, esp. if that RAT operative is making cracks about Kerry's staff going from thinking everything was hunky dory to outright panic...no stops along the way for maybe we need to fix a few things...I'm paraphrasing here, but I think that's the gist of it.
Yeah, I think I'm right. So what? Maybe I like to debate.
Are you people actually telling me that you wouldn't be high fiving eachother had Kerry been shouted down and humiliated? You're letdown too, just not honest about it.
Just get up from your computer and go bash your head against a wall; you'll make much more headway and feel a lot better about it. :-)
But you do get that Kerry scored points. They will clearly argue to the media , and with more justification, that the AL thinks Kerry is kosher and that only a group of fringe Viet, GOP funded vets have a beef with Lurch?
I was out today; tell me about the speech.
But if there were no wide shots of the audience, perhaps many were standing with their backs to the stage or even walked out as Kerry started speaking. We can't know and RATs won't tell it. We'll have to wait until someone inside the hall who's a Bush supporter tells us what happened.
1) because he is a United States Senator whom the organization invited;
2) because AL is non-partisian;
3) because they are polite;
4) because they don't live and breathe politics like us.
I am let down by the tone and reason for your posts.Some post to debate..others to disrupt and annoy.
I'm fretting enough about Frances. Eight days of our paid for Florida Vacation starting Monday may be going down the toilet....Hey, it's only money. Sniff, sniff.

He got polite applause as he said that Bush's VA isn't doing right by vets, Bush lost jobs, the GIs deserve body armor (yes, you heard right), Bush went to war the wrong way, Bush shouldn't have had hapless Afghan proxies go after Bin Laden at Tora Bora, Bush should have listened to Shinseki, Bush didn't have enough boots on the ground, Bush didn't guard ammo and wmd dumps, Bush didn't guard the borders-- thus, terror cells from bordering nations developed bases in iraq, Bush had no plan, Bush went it alone, Bush said the WOT is unwinnable, Bush didn't use the UN and NATO and on and on and on.
"And when I'm CIC, everything will be PERFECT!!!"
And nobody said a discouraging word. It's good if you can get it during the other parties convention. He diffused the Swiftee controversy by seeming to be acceptible to the AL, he got to deploy an unchallenged counter-narrative during the GOP convention instead of sitting on the sidelines. In a dead heat race, I'd say he had a good afternoon.
I still think he'll lose, but he did make out better than I hoped he would today in TN-- a swing state no less.
From what you said, 'Kerry's clear discomfort', he was more than just nervous. He must have seen a hostile crowd and tried to whip through the speech without having tomatoes thrown at his head. If he'd been a man thirty years ago, he wouldn't hae done any of that treasonous crap, but he did. At some point, though, he should have looked around, realized he was ten, fifteen years older, and made a very public apology for his behavior. Like Hanoi Jane did, not that she managed to save her career. No, that was toast. She blamed her treasonous antics on her youth. Nobody in his right mind would buy that for a minute, but it's all she could come up with. So why didn't Kerry take the same route? His liberal base would've been ticked, but they'd have gotten over it, esp. when his voting record...the few times he bothered to show up and vote...was so far left.
If he'd done that, he'd have drained rage and righteous anger from the vets and most of America. It would have been over and done with. He could still have run on his military service, just a few tweaks here and there, how he'd have done things differently. He loves this country, blah, blah, blah.
Evidently, he couldn't do it. That says volumes about Kerry, none of it good. He's dangerous. Someone on the news on the radio...maybe Ron Silver...just said that Kerry hated America. That describes him to a 'T'.
Kerry will take the spotlight off the President by going down for the third time in public. He's a very stupid man. He should take this time to lick his wounds, figure out what he needs to do to get on track, and hire new staff. Ah, but Rush says RAT higherups want him to redouble his attacks on GW before his falling poll numbers turn into double zero's. As Rush says, though, the more he's seen in public, the more he's disliked. Maybe he should go back to Nantucket and stay there.
What points? People were frostily polite to him. All those expensive promises coming out of the mouth of a man who voted AGAINST the military and vets every chance he got as U.S Senator?? Puhleeeze. You know what they say, talk's cheap. If Kerry had a record that showed his high regard for the military and vets - you can be sure he would have mentioned it to the AL. What he blew today was lots of smoke out of his ass.
All true, and nobody objected.
