Welcome to Wednesday's Hurricane Frances news-twist !

It looks like a Melbourne Landfall after all, once again (to Section9's worst fears) churning it's way North along the Coast Highway ...

Tomorrow? What storm are you watching? More like sometime Saturday. This hurricane's landfall is still 3 days away. They kept telling us Charley was going to hit Tampa up until an hour or two before it came ashore 200 miles south of there.

I didn't mean landfall would occur tomorrow, I meant the earliest we'd possibly have some confidence about what state Frances was hitting would be sometime tomorrow at the earliest. Possibly could be in two days though.

And good lord, more of the "Charley hit 200 miles from the NHC forecast!" nosense? Can people read a map?

200 miles south of Tampa Bay isn't Port Charlotte, it's the Florida Keys.

We're evacuating tomorrow for the west coast.
Where do you live? We are in Merritt Island. We might go to New Port Richey (in-laws) if we get evacuated. Where are you going? (sorry if too personal)We won't go I-4 if we can help it.

One weather map says 11 pm AST
What does the "A" stand for?

Hmmm... It seems a lot farther when you drive it. Still 50 miles is the difference between a hurricane and no hurricane.

If it hits Orlando the theme park will be the least of Disney's worries. Their Celebration development was very lightly constructed. I asked one of their sales reps about it and he told me "not to worry -they never get hurricanes up here."

Called Mom last night in Cocoa. She is insisting they are staying put in the new house. I got very upset with her. As we are both Florida natives, she has become too complacent with small hurricanes to get out of the way of a big one.

While Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte may not be 200 miles south of Tampa - it sure isn't 50 miles....50 miles south of Tampa is Sarasota. Fort Meyers is 75 miles south of Sarasota.

Any meteorologists out there want to explain what all these squiggly lines mean, and how they will effect FRANCES?

Says it's a "Low-High Level Wind Shear" map.

"They moved to Florida in February to escape the Jersey winters..."

Tell them to be very careful. I've heard a number of Florida 'native' might begin staking 'newbies' to posts at the shoreline - a sacrifice to the 'hurricane gods'. They are trying to ward off the 'bad ju-ju' these new arrivals might have brought with them. It might just be a rumor though.

No 100% sure mind you but they did say on the news that most hotels are occupied by people displaced by Charley.

It's official; My dad's going absolutely nuts over this storm. He's sitting in Louisville KY watching all this, calls my mom yesterday in Ocala FL. Knows that SHE'S going to be ok (hell she used to live in Miami she knows the drill) but asks if the kids and I had left yet.

Yeah. Dad's not taking this storm well...

With respect, please drive to Cocoa, throw her over your shoulder, and get the hell out of Dodge. This storm has Vero Beach to St. Augustine written all over it.

Staying at your house in Cocoa is like staying in a mobile home on the beach.

Not smart.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

The city of Tampa itself is inland NE up the bay...

The NHC landfall itself the day before Charley hit was the south shore of the Tampa Bay......

And the landfall point was 50 miles N of the actual landfall point the next day. At the time, Charley was still south of Cuba.

The angle of deviation between the NHC forecast and the landfall point is only about 5 degrees of arc or so.
