Did your grandfather know Sacco and Vanzetti?

Interesting pair. IMO, Sacco was guilty, Vanzetti may have been innocent (but probably guilty as an accessory.) He took the fall for the team. Which, as you say, was the Communists.

So far as I know, Gramps never met either man. He did, however, support their protestations of innocence and accused the government of executing them simply because they were commies.

Speaking of taking one for the team, did you see that recent documentary made by the Rosenberg's granddaughter about Julius and Ethel. It was much better than I expected. The woman [can't remember her name] said she began the project with the intention of establishing their innocence. She seemed, however, to come to the conclusion that the government was probably right. There were some interviews with her grandparents' contemporaries where they pretty much admit that Julius and Ethel were executed because they refused to talk. They seemed pretty scummy to me knowing they let others die in their stead. Then again, they were commies and the state is more important that they.
