So far as I know, Gramps never met either man. He did, however, support their protestations of innocence and accused the government of executing them simply because they were commies.
Speaking of taking one for the team, did you see that recent documentary made by the Rosenberg's granddaughter about Julius and Ethel. It was much better than I expected. The woman [can't remember her name] said she began the project with the intention of establishing their innocence. She seemed, however, to come to the conclusion that the government was probably right. There were some interviews with her grandparents' contemporaries where they pretty much admit that Julius and Ethel were executed because they refused to talk.
