August 31, 2004 -- A cop was in serious condition with head injuries today after he was knocked off his scooter and stomped by protestors at an illegal march, police said. Several thousand people took part in the march conducted without a permit by the group Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign which started at the United Nations, then moved south on Second Avenue, west on 23rd Street and back uptown on Eighth Avenue. The violence happened at 30th Street and Eighth Avenue, where police barricades were set up to protect Madison Square Garden.
Police spokesman Paul Browne, who saw what happened, said that after protesters knocked the officer off the scooter, they "kicked and punched" him.
The cop was in serious condition at St. Vincent's Hospital.

It also wouldn't be happening if Rudy Giuliani and his No Tolerance Policy were still in office.

"Sounds like they have money. Does the cop have a lawyer? I hope he sues them into non-existence. If not, he should go after individual members."
Now what the lawyers should do is build the case tyying all this back to the DNC then sue them for a few hundred million.

Click on the link above to the website of the organization. Right now I have "guidestar.org" on another window trying to locate it...apparantly this is not an official non-profit (you can't deduct your donations)--means it is largely unregulated. However, it has a nice fat board of directors with lots of names.
You can donate to it via Paypal. (g)
Something to run with...my theory is that there's very big 527 money funding these "spontaneous" protests.

There comes a point in time where a country needs an enema.
I think that point has come and gone because we certainly seem to have a bad case of constipation in OUR country.

Here's their webpage. I guess Aug 31st is the day.

One No and a Million Yesses
August 31: A Day of Non-Violent Civil Disobdedience and Direct Action
The Republicans are coming. In a shameless effort to exploit the tragedy of 9-11, they will use New York City to re-nominate a president whose agenda tramples on the very freedoms they claim to fight for. A radical 31st, two days before the renomination of George W. Bush, we are calling for a day of non-violent civil disobedience and direct action.
We'll occupy the areas around the buildings of war profiteers and the corporations that have hijacked our air, water, land, pensions and voice. We¹ll converge around Madison Square Garden, the site of the Republican National Convention, sit down and refuse to move. And from our clear NO will emerge a constellation of YESES: YES to democracy, YES to justice, freedom, and peace.

From the article: "Protesters charged that cops clad in riot gear, who moved into protect the officer, used rough tactics. "It was a completely inappropriate use of the police force," said Anthony Converse, 39, of Brooklyn."
Yet, the COP was beaten unconscious. Apparently all the protesters are just fine.

Gee...you'd think with 45,000 media people on the scene, we'd have seen this on TV, wouldn't you? Why? It's not important. Now, if a Transvestite Biker For Choice had been cuffed in a less-than-kit-glove manner, that would have been front page, stop the presses stuff.
