Medal Winners Introduced by Actress Angie Harmon and NFL Cornerback Jason Sehorn

NEW YORK - The 2004 Republican National Convention this morning announced a special item for their Monday evening program: "A Nation of Courage." Today, the convention will pay tribute to the courage of a nation that has seen unprecedented challenges over the last three and a half years and the President who led the nation through these historic times. Program speaker former Mayor Rudy Giuliani will speak to the courage of the American people, seen through the acts of bravery of a city that saw tragedy and great acts of heroism on September 11, 2001. John McCain will talk about the courage of our men and women in the military and the commander-in-chief who has led with clarity and conviction in the War on Terror.

Two Medal of Honor Recipients will be introduced by actress Angie Harmon and NFL cornerback Jason Sehorn. Harmon and Sehorn will welcome American heroes Rodolfo Hernandez and Tom Hudner to the convention stage as part of Monday night's ceremonies.

Rodolfo P. Hernandez (U.S. Army, ret.), of North Carolina, was awarded his Medal of Honor in recognition of his service in the Korean War. A member of Company G, 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, Hernandez distinguished himself by single-handedly halting an enemy advance long enough to enable his unit to counterattack and retake lost ground.

Thomas J. Hudner (U.S. Navy, ret.), from Massachusetts, received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Korean War. Forced down behind enemy lines, Lt. Hudner risked his life to save an injured flier trapped alive in burning wreckage by using his bare hands to pack the fuselage with snow.

America's Veterans Show Strong Support for the GOP in 2004

In an unprecedented show of support for the Republican Party and President Bush, 18 percent of the 2004 delegation identify themselves as veterans or military reservists. Approximately 4,800 delegates and alternates in 55 delegations will travel to New York City this month. Over 15 percent are veterans, which means that approximately 720 men and women who have worn a United States uniform will represent their home states in New York City. Another 3 percent, or approximately 140 delegates, identify themselves as military reservists.

The 2004 Republican National Convention will be held for the first time ever in New York City at Madison Square Garden from August 30 - September 2, 2004. For more information about the 2004 Republican National Convention, please visit our website at www.gopconvention.com.
