Bo Derek was interviewed by Shep Smith of Fox News and said that she couldn't understand why Al-Qaeda is attacking us. If it wasn't for us they would have been part of the Soviet Union.
Smith managed to remain stone faced
Well, that isn't what your post said.
I only respond to what I read.
Post a transcript of the actual comments so I can view them in context.
10 ... is her IQ
One of my old taglines:
A blonde walks into a bar....... 'ouch'!
"Smith managed to remain stone faced"
Do you think this Republican backer in liberal Hollywood is wrong?
"I THINK she's saying that we are the reason that the Soviet Union fell apart,"
By God at least someone has a clue........LOL
Thanks
"If it wasn't for the U.S., Afghanistan and many of the people who make up Al Qaida would be licking Soviet boot."
ta dah!!!!!!!!!!
the Rushkies knew Al-Qaeda was Bad News 25 years ago.
Shep's still processing information from today's "G Block".
"she really didn't appear to know too much about the subject matter."

This is a point that needs discussion. We've heard how members of Al Qaeda fought against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Well, I don't believe it. As for the Taliban, they got a reputation for anti-Communism very cheaply, by hanging the former dictator Najibullah - of course, only after it was perfectly safe to do it.
The point is this: it's perfectly true that if America had not taken a stand (led by Ronald Reagan), the Soviet Union would still be riding high and in control of Afghanistan (and probably much else). What I doubt is that Osama bin Laden and his associates were opposed to that outcome.
I don't think so. Osama was still in Saudi back then, counting Daddy's money.
Osama didn't show up until 1981 or 1982, and his logistical and financial network wasn't renamed "Al Q'aeda" until years later. He wasn't even the Numero Uno in that org until his mentor -- an Egyptian, I think -- got smeared by the Russians.
I'd like to know someday how much CIA mentoring went into the logistical framework of Al Q'aeda. I guess those files are long since toast. But nobody on this planet organizes like Americans do -- I was told that by a former Luftwaffe flyer who was my high-school German teacher -- and I smell American organizational genius behind Al Q'aeda, back when it was supposed to be a backbone for mujahedin fighting the Sovs.
Of course, back then it was in a good cause, so I don't mean this as a criticism of the CIA, but Bo's point that the people we taught are surly ingrates, shouldn't be lost. They turned on us just because we aren't Moslems. We sent people to Arabia to keep Saddam out of the Persian Gulf oil fields and kick his army out of Kuwait, and Osama and his fellow-believers instantly got their underwear in a wad -- or at least they said they did, in order to challenge the House of Saud for the custodianship of the shrines of Islam.
Takes a special kind of person to wage a worldwide campaign of death and destruction on people who have helped him mightily in the past, over a particularistic religious beef, doesn't it?
Bo knows.
No, it isn't.
We helped them a great deal in convincing the Sovs to withdraw from Afghanistan. We kicked Saddam out of Kuwait, and then we knocked over his brutish regime. We didn't wage "war on Islam" or anything like it. We have done them a couple of fat favors -- yeah, sure, it was in our own interest too, but does anyone here think for 20 seconds that they'd have succeeded on their own? -- and they have rewarded us with violence, vitriol, hatred, and death.
Bo got it. You're just irked she didn't drop by an AAU-listed university for a degree you respect, before she ventured an invited opinion.
